Mr. Becerra was born September 13, 1926 in Lompoc, California to Julio and Ramona Becerra. He was raised and educated in local schools in the Lompoc Valley. Gus was inducted into the US Navy in 1944 and served in the Asiatic-Pacific area during WWII where he earned a Victory Medal and an honorable discharge. He relocated his family to his family to the Los Angeles area where he started a 30 year career at Ford Motor Co., in Pico Rivera and retired as a Final Inspector. Gus was especially fond of his grand and great grandchildren, and his family meant the world to him. He was an avid gardener who enjoyed it greatly with his wife. He enjoyed a good walk, and was a loyal WWF fan. He went home with the Lord on February 18, 2013 at Hemet Valley Medical Center.
Survivors included his loving wife of 65 years, Carmen Becerra of Lompoc; daughters Melinda (Donnie) Salcedo of Hemet, CA and Carol (Roy) of Formwalt, AZ, son Gus Becerra of Boise, Id; sisters; Mary (Hector) Herrera of Riverside, CA and Minny (Robert) Apodoca of Lompoc, CA; brothers; Ray (Leona) Macias of Santa Maria, CA and Arnold Becerra of San Francisco, CA; 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
His legacy will live on thru his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. His spirit will live on forever. Gus touched many lives and will be truly missed by all those who were honored to know him and who loved him.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at McWane Family Funeral Home, 350 North San Jacinto Street, Hemet, California, with a rosary to be recited at 6:00 PM. A funeral mass will be on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, 780 S. State St., Hemet, CA 92543 commencing at 10:00 AM. A graveside service will follow at Riverside National Cemetery in staging area #3 at 12:30 PM.
