He was born on May 2, 1932, and was the son of the late Arthur Holland and the late Clara Beyer Holland and is the youngest of ten children. Growing up he was also known as Tarzy & Hal. He was married to the love of his life Joy Holland for 55 years who passed away in March 2006.
Harold is a veteran and served honorably in the United States Army for over 20 years, achieving the rank of 1st Sergeant (E8) and received Honors for Korea, Vietnam and served in Europe. He was also known as Topkick or Sarge to his fellow soldiers that spoke highly of him and respected him for his leadership, honesty and trust. During his retirement years he loved to travel to many military bases and visit with his fellow military brothers but his favorite was Coronado Island lodge where he stayed at for weeks on end. He was proud to wear his jacket and hat with all his embroidered military emblems when he was out and about.
He had a great sense of humor and his family considered him a comedian at heart. He enjoyed singing a tune or two that put a big smile on his face and many others. Harold could be seen riding anywhere possible on his scooter; he was always on the go. He loved to visit the local casinos, and felt his luck was the best at Barona Casino. He and Joy loved dancing and they were known to cut a rug. Their favorite vacation spot was Waikiki, Hawaii which they visited there often. Harold was also very creative and published a book of his poems he wrote called “Inspirational Writings by Harold Holland”. There were many times Harold would visit nursing homes during the holidays dressed up as Santa Claus that would bring a smile to many residents living there. He wanted them to feel loved and appreciated.
He was very loving and caring toward his family. He will be missed by those that knew him and loved him.
