I Hilda Elizabeth Sears, was born in Guthrie, Oklahoma on October 16, 1933. I was the eldest daughter of four girls from the union of John and Dorothy Sears. After graduating from high school, my sister Shirley and I followed in our mother’s footsteps by attending nursing school.
I later moved to Detroit, Michigan to continue my nursing career. While in Detroit, I met the love of my life, Willie Williams. Willie and I were married on March 14, 1953. Soon after, our family of two became a family of six with the births of Gerald Lamar, Glenda Faye, Glen Edwin and Garrett Maurice. Our whole family then relocated to Kansas City, Missouri, where I gave birth to our fourth son Kendall Ray.
I attended trade school to become a key punch operator and, in 1960, became the first African American employee at Armour Star Office in Kansas City, Missouri. A great employment opportunity at General Motors arose for Willie, so we all packed up, boarded the Amtrak train and headed to California where my youngest child Kevin Earl was born. In 1966, I became the first African American employee at Carnation Milk Company in Los Angeles, California.
In later years, I was blessed with the opportunity to be employed by Northrop Aircraft Division in Hawthorne, California, as a Shop Load Analyst until my retirement in 1979. I was fortunate to be able to see seven of my children and family members also obtain employment at Northrop. I continued my faith with the Lord Jesus Christ, in 1969, as a member of Athens Baptist Church in Los Angeles, California. There I devoted my time to faithfully serve as an usher. When I moved to Chino, California in 1989, I transferred my membership to Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Ontario, California. I continued to serve in the Usher ministry while there. In 2001, I relocated to Murrieta, California and became a member of Imani Temple of Temecula Church of God in Christ in Temecula, California. Here is where I continued to serve my Lord and Savior as a loyal and dedicated usher until my sunset.
I was preceded in death by my parents John A. and Dorothy L. Sears;
Willie Williams; and my granddaughter and her husband Quiana Faye and
SGT. Janek Pietrzak. I leave to carry on my faith, strength, and legacy to my six children: Gerald, (Marilyn); Glenda Faye, (Roy “Mr. J”); Glen, (Stacy); Garrett, Kendall, and Kevin, all of California.
My grandchildren: Gerin Lamar; Brandon Mychal; Eerin Lamar; Keesha
Maree; Britny Marie Williams-Tooke, (Tari); Sharee Renee and Bailey

Anyone that has met our Mom knows what a bright light she was on this
earth. She was gentle, but strong; sweet, but sassy; worldly, but pragmatic, and a woman of great faith who certainly had love for everyone. Our hearts are filled with memories and pride as we all speak her name, Mom.
Though life goes on, she will always be in our hearts.
We Love You, Mom.
