

Irene Kendall Walton. Gwen passed away
in Hemet, California on May 22, 2011 at
the age of 96.
Gwen grew up at a lumber mill run by
her father near Weed, California. The
family later moved to Los Angeles, and
Gwen graduated from Manual Arts High
School in 1932. She attended Business
College and began working for Security
Bank in 1935. She met her future husband
at Manual Arts, and she married Frank
Emory Rittenhouse on October 7, 1939
in Winslow, Arizona. They spent many
years in the Los Angeles area, raising
two children. From September 1943 to
June 1944, she was a civilian employee
in payroll for the United States Army Air
Corps, and in later years she was a Girl
Scout and Job's Daughter leader. She was
also active in Assistance League and
Eastern Star.
In May 1974, Frank, Gwen and her
parents moved to Fullerton, CA. During
the thirty-two years they lived in Fullerton,
she belonged to St. Stephen's Lutheran
Church, and she was very active in the
Fullerton Emblem Club, serving as pres-
ident in 1976. She was also a member of
Estudillo Chapter, DAR. She moved to
Hemet in 2006 to be near her daughter
and family.
She was preceded in death by her
husband of 55 years in 1994 and by her
son, Joseph E. Rittenhouse in 1995.
Survivors include her daughter, Lynne Feely
of Hemet; daughter-in-law, Edith Rittenhouse
of Lake Elsinore; seven grandchildren,
Matthew Feely of Chicago, Anita (David)
Rees of Temecula, Jean (Frank) Murdica
of Indio, Andrea (David) Sutcliffe of England,
and Joseph, Frank, and Gwen Rittenhouse
of Lake Elsinore; four great-grandsons, and
a cousin, Nancy Seegelken of Hemet.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent
to the Fullerton Emblem Club, Box 3401,
Fullerton, CA or Hemet Hospice Volunteers,
890 W. Stetson, Hemet, CA.
