Jack was born January 27, 1928 in Inglewood, California to Irvin and Bess Asbury. He grew up in Los Angeles along with his sister Jean and attended local schools including Manual Arts High School, where he was a star athlete and senior class president. While attending elementary school Jack met Beverly Brent. They remained neighborhood friends throughout their schooling and while he was in the Navy. Beverly would later become his loving wife of 65 years. Jack was a signalman on the U.S.S Sierra - a tender class destroyer in 1946-48, traveling to the Philippines and China.
Jack and Beverly were married on September 23, 1949. They were blessed with four children: Gary, Dean, Adele and Gail. Jack had a varied employment from being an agent for the F.B.I, to a financial officer of several Southern California banking institutions to finally becoming a certified teacher with a master's degree in education administration. Jack said his final 25 years of working as an educator, where he taught fifth grade, were some of his best years in his working career.
Jack and Beverly were dedicated supporters of the University of Southern California, where Jack attended undergraduate and Education certification schooling. They were proud USC football season ticket holders for over 65 years.
Jack was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He always was interested in each of his children and their respective families. He always had a smile and a positive attitude. Jack leaves his wife, three living children (Adele, having passed away seven years ago), 15 grand children and 28 great-grandchildren.
