

Jerry Wayne Baker grew up in El Dorado Kansas and Hood River, Oregon where he lettered in Football, Track, and Baseball. He attended and played football in Junior College in El Dorado, Kansas for one year then transferred to the University of Oregon. Jerry enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1966 and soon was deployed to Vietnam in February of 1968 in response to the Tet Offensive. He would serve two tours of duty during the Vietnam War.
In 1971 Jerry married his life mate, Yvonne Blakeman, and they remained together for 48 years until his death.
While still in the United States Marine Corp Jerry and Yvonne would be transferred to Camp Garcia in Puerto Rico; to Washington DC where he would work as the Administrative Assistant at the Navy Annex for the Chief of Staff of the USMC; and to Billings, Montana from 1978 to 1982 where he received his Bachelor’s Degree from Eastern Montana College in Education. Upon the completion of his Degree Jerry and Yvonne would then be reassigned to Iwakuni Naval Base, Japan, where Jerry served as the Education Chief. In 1986 Jerry and Yvonne returned home to Camp Pendleton to serve his final two years in the Marines where he worked as the Administrative Chief for the Military Base. He retired from the USMC as a Master Gunnery Sergeant E-8 in 1988.
In 1989 Jerry returned to Camp Pendleton as a civilian and was hired as an Administrative Chief for the base Fire Department overseeing their computer systems and updating satellite communications. Jerry retired from that position in 2012.
Jerry W. Baker is survived by his lovely wife of 48 years, Yvonne Baker, who loved him very dearly. He will be missed by his family, Kathleen and Edward Brown, Eugene Blakeman, Michael and Tami Hunter, Mark and Meri Jo Hunter, along with many nephews and nieces.
