

Joan Gumbus, loved the beach, sun tanning, ice skating and swimming. Born, raised, married her sweetheart Frank Gumbus and raised her own family in Port Jefferson, New York, a small harbor, ship building town. Approximately 84 years of life in this beautiful town. She was born on October 20, 1925 to Charles and Philipine Holly. She left too soon on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 in Hemet, California.
Joan and Frank Gumbus would love going out often to dance to their favorite 40's and 50's music. She and Frank almost completed 50 years of marriage, before he passed.
Joan was known for her baking skills. Everyone got a homemade birthday cake on their special day, and there were always pies, cookies or pumpkin bread on the holidays. Everything she cooked was good too; especially her roast beef and mashed potatoes. She loved art and Indian artifacts could be found everywhere in her home. Her favorite pastime was completing 1,500 piece puzzles, word seek puzzles, card games and board games. She loved gardening and walking her dog Gizmo.
Joan will be remembered fondly for her loving ways. She was caring, loving and thoughtful of others. Even when she didn't feel well, she would want to set the table or bring you something to drink. She was considerate that way, always putting others first.
Joan will be dearly missed by her daughters, Loretta (husband Frank), Lynda, Laura and Lucille. She will deeply missed by her grandson Daniel, his wife Brandy, and grandchildren Donna, Cindy and Larry. Also feeling this loss will be her six great grandchildren Ashley, Michael, Allahna, Tyler, Kameron and Brooklyn.
Joan Gumbus, touched many lives and will be truly missed by all those who were honored to know her and who loved her.
The family will hold private services.
