I worked with John back in 1980, he was my first supervisor. I admired John and was sad when he left the company we worked for; Datachecker.

I was deeply saddened to hear of John's Passing. I just heard the news this morning. John was a great colleague and friend - I admired his wisdom, his courage, and above all, his unwavering integrity. May God Bless you and comfort you with Peace - I will keep Alice, David, Allison and Summer in my prayers.

A Real Pro
I did not get the chance to get to know John really well, but I appreciated his approach to our relationship. John was a really thoughtful and considerate person. I was one of his customers and John always approached our mutual efforts with great respect and optimism. He was always prepared and responsive to anything that would enhance our communication as we both attempted to improve our work situation through enhanced product sales. He was direct and to-the-point which was much appreciated, particularly in today's world of complex communication options. While his condition was obviously a significant impact on his ability, you would have never know it. He would have never thought to burden anyone with this information. John was a real pro.

My deepest condolences to the Yelaska family. John was a great guy to work with and he will be missed at Zebra.

My Good Friend. Gone too soon
I met John way back in the early 90's when I first started my career and he was instrumental in getting me pointed in the right direction. The business we were in was very technical and John always took the time to answer my questions (sometimes 3 or 4 times) and would offer additional information to make it easier to understand. He truly was one of my mentors. A good story we liked to laugh about was when he broke his foot in Karate and I had to drive him around on sales calls. We were driving southbound on rt.83 when the right, rear tire blew. I could only make it to the left side shoulder which was very narrow and I had to change the tire with traffic whizzing by at an uncomfortable distance. John felt so bad that he couldn't help, I don't think I bought a lunch for the next 3 weeks.

John and I also shared a love for Christmas movies and episodes of favorite TV shows. We always joked that this would be the year he would best me in the "feats of strength".

There was no better friend than John Yelaska and I will miss him terribly. Sleep well, my good man. I will see you in the next life and we will have a fantastic Mexican dinner to celebrate.

Dearest Friends and Family...We feel your pain of loss for your loving husband and father he was, because he left such an impression on everyone he met. His spirit will linger forever in all our hearts and thoughts. But know, he is in the greatest hands of all and in peace with God. He is always with you!

I've had the pleasure of working with John for over six years and I can assure you he never missed an opportunity to talk about his family. He always had an amazing work ethic and an impossibly optimistic attitude but it's his love for family I admire most. 

John will be missed. My deepest condolences to his family, whom he loved so much.

Everyone at Royce Digital Systems is sadden by John's passing and wish to extend our deepest sympathy to Alice and family. I have worked with John for many years and was always impressed with his professionalism, knowledge and sense of humor. He always went beyond the call of duty and would be more concerned about his customers than himself. John was not only concerned about our business, but took a true interest in our personal lives as well. I will always appreciate the time I spent with John and cheerish the memories.

John it was a pleasure to have known you and to observe daily a man who truly worked with passion. Our first meeting began with a smile and a handshake our last conversation ended the same way. You are a great man and will be truly missed.

We've known John since we were all kids. Went to school together and shared lots of fun times and we have wonderful memories of the good old days. We witnessed the early days when love was blossoming between he and Al. Their very first date was a double date with us, although they had been friends for years. They shared a wonderful life together, and I hope the memories of that will sustain Al in her grief. Our love and prayers go out to the family. RIP dear friend! We will always remember you with warm thoughts and precious memories.

I met with John in the hospital in September. God met with him too.
I first met John at work in 1988. We worked as associates off an on ever since. In September I met with John again while he was in the hospital--and God met with us too. John told me that day he had been praying for God to send someone to meet with him so God could bring him hope. That very same day I found myself in our CA office on a trip from my home in Chicago. The Lord kept saying to me "you have to visit John in the hospital while you are there". And so I did. I first met with John and Alice and Allison. We had a nice visit sharing stories about times back home in Chicago. But after they left John and I spent some time alone with God. We opened up the Bible and shared Scripture. I am absolutely convinced that John trusted the saving work of Jesus Christ alone for his salvation and he is in heaven today because of that faith, free from pain and tears. Romans 10:9 says "If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." Even though John suffered much I am so glad he called out to God in his moment of need and God comforted him and gave him peace. Psalm 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." I will miss John. But at the same time I am happy for him that he is now and forever experiencing the joy and peace that God promises through faith in his Son.

Wonderful Person
I met John at Zebra a long time ago...I can't remember the year. Our cubicles were right next to each other and whenever he had a question about his new job he would poke his head in and politely ask me for help. He was so gracious and funny, I never minded him popping in for advice. When he moved to CA and I started working part time our conversations were less frequent but I always loved catching up with him. He always asked about my family and was genuinely interested in everything I had to say. He was such a joy to talk to. I am so sad that we have lost such a sweet and wonderful person.

Rest in peace John. You will live on in the hearts and memories of the lives you have touched. May Al and family find peace and strength in each other. Love, Bill and Rob

To us he will always be Johnny Allen....
Growing up I have heard many stories about cousin Johnny. Some not fit to share but in private would cause many laughs. He was one week older than my Uncle Bruce and my grandmother Helen loved him like a second son although he was her nephew only through marriage. Over the years Johnny was one of the very few of my Grandfather Tony's nephews that would never fail to call him on his birthday. Although my Grandpa is hard of hearing I knew the phone calls always meant a lot to him. John and Alice were married the same year as my Mom and Dad and they always called on my parents anniversary and on my Mother's Birthday as well. I knew Johnny loved us by the fact that he always made the point to call us on those days, and I hope he knows how much we love him still. The family was able to talk to him on Christmas just a week before his passing and they are so grateful for that. My mother will now always watch Green Acres and think of him and laugh because in their last conversation John recited one of the show's Christmas Special plots by memory. Beyond the age to my Uncle, the anniversary matching my parents, both my mom and John saw their birth of each of their first born within weeks of each other. The bonds that came with raising those two together in childhood brought them even closer. I know my Grandpa had a few martinis in memory of John this past Saturday, and probably even one in memory of John Senior, his brother and Johnny Allen's dad. Our hearts pour out to Alice and Allison and David for peace in this time. Johnny is watching over all of us with a big smile on his face, now he no longer has to skype to see his little angel of a granddaughter Summer, he can see her any time he wants...and I know he will watch over each of us with a hand on the shoulder keeping us strong during this time and forevermore.

I had the pleasure of working with John for several years. He was the best rep. I have worked with - his sense of humor was great. He will be missed...

My thoughts and prayers are with the Yelaska family during this time. May God hold you all in the palm of his hand during this trying time.

I am extremely saddened by the news of John's passing. He was a straight shooter with a kind heart and I considered him a valued friend. My sincerest condolences go out to John's family and loved ones. May he rest in peace.

The first time I met John, I opened the door holding his granddaughter in my arms, and I will never foget how his face lit up in a huge smile, his eyes so loving. I held her out to him, and he was just glowing. I knew right then what a warm, caring person he was. Allison's parents didn't even know me, but showered me with hellos and hugs...I will never forget what a great person he was, how Allison talked so highly of her father. I'm so truly saddened, and wish I could be there to show my condolences. Many prayers have been sent, some tears shed, he will be more then missed. May all of his family find strength at this time. Loving memories of my Dad
How can I put any of this into words? I will always remember the loving memories I had with my dad, and I am grateful for everything he ever did for me. These past few months did not define his life, and I will remember him as the strong, smart, loving, and funny dad that I knew. He was also very nostalgic. He held memories dear and kept all kinds of things from over the years because they all had special meanings to him. These are the things I will remember about him. He loved classic movies and would often quote them. He gave me a lot of hugs when I was little. He raised us with strong morals and values. He would take us on bike rides and play catch with us in the street after he got home from a long day at work. He wrote funny letters to me when I went away to summer camp. He always did special things for my mom, and demonstrated his love for her in so many ways. He also made sure that I had everything I ever needed. When I got older, I made sure he knew how grateful I was for everything from braces to piano lessons. He always wanted the best for me. Dad's life was cut too short by this terrible disease, but I am forever thankful that we were together for my graduation, wedding, and the birth of our precious baby Summer. I am so glad that he was there for her first Christmas and first birthday. His love for her was incredible. His eyes lit up at the mention of her name. I know he is watching over her now. He put up such a fight and suffered so much. I will always miss him, but I am glad that he is no longer in pain. My words can only barely begin to express what I'm feeling right now. Thank you, Friend
John and I started working together at the start of 2010 and because we would be working together so closely, he told me about his treatments right away. I think his exact words were, "I'm only telling you this so you'll know why I may be out unexpectedly for days at a time. I didn't want you to think I was a slacker." It didn't take long to figure out that John was anything but a "slacker". John was an incredibly determined, independent person and it took some time for me to convince him to let me shoulder some of the workload. During times of treatment he would call on the way to or from a doctor's appointment to talk about work-related issues, even though he would have had every right and reason to take it easy.
John quickly became someone I admired, not only for his vast knowledge and strong spirit but also his great dry, witty sense of humor. We had many running jokes- the one about a certain person who only seemed to call at 5:00pm on a Friday; the one about how his memory was ten-times larger than mine and probably the best one- the one about our large age gap. One time in particular (this was so funny!) was when we were driving around visiting our customers together. In the conversation John mentioned someone who he knew, but I had only spoken to over the phone. He made an offhanded comment about how the man was about his age to which I responded, "Really?!?! I didn't know he was THAT old!" (In my mind, I put him at late thirties or so). John's immediate reaction was, "Get out. Get out of my car right now." I don't think I ever laughed so hard. He went on and on about how "old" he was while I tried to eke out a sincere apology through fits of laughter. He was such a good sport about my total foot-in-mouth moment and we had many more laughs about it later on.
The thing I admired about John the most, though, was his genuine love of people. The very first time we sat down to talk about our territory, he gave me the "who's who" of our customers. It was obvious they were not accounts to him, but individual people he had gotten to know and care about over time. When you spoke to John, you knew he was really listening. He wouldn't be multitasking or half-listening; you would have his full attention. He was the type of person you could meet once, have a brief conversation with and he would remember you by name and what you talked about years later.
John cared passionately about his job, his customer and most of all his family. To Alice and Allison, John spoke of you so often I feel like I know you. He was a blessing to me, as I know he was to many other people and I am so grateful to have had the privilege of getting to know him these last two years. John, I have no words for the value of our friendship. Your honesty and integrity as well as your sense of humor were something I will always reflect back on and admire.

Croatian Brat's (Brothers)
John and I met in July of 2003. I had just started working for a company based in Santa Ana, and John was the 1st manufacturers rep to call and welcome me aboard. We met for lunch at his favorite deli (Mattern's in Orange), and realized we had a great deal in common. We both came from Croatian heritage on our mom's side. I helped teach him a few words (the good ones), and kept him up to date on how things were progressing overseas. When Kris and I married in Dec 2005, John and Alice attended our wedding. We were married in a Croatian Catholic Church in L.A., and John was so happy to see some of the traditional culture that we brought into our ceremony. He and Alice OWNED the dance floor that night - they danced the night away, and it was so special for us to watch. John battled his cancer with a spirit and resolve that we all could be proud off. He so wanted more time to be with his only true love, Alice and to dance with Summer at her wedding. As I wrote earlier to Allison, "Your dad will always be there for your mom,you and for Summer - just ask." I already miss my friend so much - I will miss our talks, visits, emails, meals, parties and so much more. Laka Noc (good night) dear friend. See you again.
