Kenneth Edward Wooten Sr. was born in Gary, Indiana on Monday, December 6, 1926. Mr. Wooten was born to Mr. Clarence Wooten and Mrs. Ethel Wooten. He was a force to be reckoned with from the very beginning of his life. At the young age of 16, he enlisted in the U. S. Armed forces for the department of the Army. Did I mention he was a force to be reckoned with? He lied about his age and went on to bravely and honorably serve in the Army as a First Aid Man. Sergeant, (then Private) Kenneth E. Wooten received many medals for his bravery, including a Purple Heart, for wounds received in Action in Korea, on March 15, 1951. Young Private Kenneth E. Wooten risked his life without a second thought by pushing his friend out of the way of incoming fire. Private Kenneth E. Wooten suffered severe injuries when he was hit by shrapnel from a bomb explosion.
Kenneth met his beautiful wife, Leona Joan Wooten and their marriage was blessed with 4 adoring children; Kenneth Wooten Jr. Timothy Wooten, Sheryl Wooten and Annette Wooten, they in turn blessed the couple with 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Kenneth and Leona were happily married for 63 years. Kenneth now joins Leona in heaven where they are surely dancing to Tennessee Waltz and Harbor Lights and listening to Blues Music. Kenneth enjoyed the soulfulness and rhythm of the Blues, even at the hospital, during his last stay, the family would play the Blues to brighten his day.
Kenneth’s joy and love for life was infectious. After he retired from the Steel Industry, he continued to work at many jobs. His last job was here in Sun City as a grocery bagger. He knew everyone in town especially everyone from his church. Kenneth was a devout Catholic, he was part of the Knights of Columbus at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church and continued to be an usher during services until his health prevented him from doing so. Many wonderful memories were shared and created with his children and grandchildren barbecuing and eating RIBS and of course, sharing his war stories.
Kenneth Edward Wooten Sr. passed away peacefully in his home after a short battle with cancer, on Tuesday, February 12, 2019. He was surrounded by the love of his family. Kenneth’s playful personality, his words of encouragement and love will always be missed. His family finds comfort in knowing he is now with the love of his life and they are now looking out for all of their family.
