

Laura was born on April 16, 1956 in Phoenix, Arizona. She was adopted by Eugine and Sarah Barber and grew up in the Los Angeles area. She attended Manuel Dominguez High School in Compton, California. She lived in the East Los Angeles area where she met James Dixon. Their union with James produced their daughter Myisha in 1973. Laura relocated to the city of Riverside in 1975. In 1982, she met Karl Wright, their union produced their daughter Karla in 1984. Karl and Laura got married in May of 1986. For the next 39 years Laura and Karla settled in the Inland Empire where they lived upon her passing.
Laura achieved many pursuits over the years prior to retiring in 2012. She specialized in inventory and purchasing. Laura worked for the Department of Defense at the March Base Exchange for many years from 2002-2011 as a purchasing and reorder assistant. .
Laura’s previous place of employment was with the County of Riverside as a reordering clerk for Social Services/TANF Department from 1989 till 1997.
Laura dedicated most of her life to her children and her family. She enjoyed going to San Diego with her husband Karl. Driving along the coast and watching the oceans waves come to shore. She was active in the lives of her two daughters, Myisha and Karla. Laura would visit Myisha, helping out in her classroom with her students. She enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter Maleah, being so proud of how much she’s grown into adulthood. When she was at home, she would wake up every morning, go to her daughter Karla’s house and help her with her grandchildren before school. Making breakfast, preparing lunch boxes. Waking them up with hugs and kisses before they walked out the door for school. In February 2017, she was happy to be reunited with her biological family who resides throughout Los Angeles County.
Laura is survived by her family that consists of her husband, Karl Wright, their daughter Karla Wright-Gomez and her son-in-law Hugo Gomez; her daughter from her first marriage, Myisha Cherry who resides in Northern California. Laura has four granddaughters; Maleah Cherry, Hannah, Helena, and Hosanna Gomez. Laura has two sisters and a brother, Sergio, Patricia and Estela which has preceded her by passing away in 2006. Many cousins, nieces and nephews will truly miss her and adore her in memory.
Laura dedicated her life to her family. She enjoyed looking at nature, animals, and gardening. She could be found in the backyard planting flowers, tending to fruit and citrus trees, and planting herbs in her garden. She loved going to the farmers market and flea markets to find unique items to collect. Laura enjoyed going to San Diego in their travel trailer with her husband Karl. They would drive along the coast and enjoy the serenity of the ocean waves, having lunch in their favorite restaurant by the bay. Laura always opened her home and showing hospitality toward family and friends was her favorite pastime. The overwhelming love and generosity toward her family will be missed.
