Louis Leon Smock of Irvine died suddenly August 12. He was 88 years old. Louis was born May 24, 1932 in Long Beach California to Louis and Opal Smock. Ten months later, they survived the deadly 1933 Long Beach earthquake.
Growing up in Long Beach, he graduated from David Starr Jordan High School. After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy Reserve in 1952, Louis joined the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve where he served until his second honorable discharge in 1958.
After military service, he was hired at Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach. Despite a name change or two, it was the only full time job he would ever have as a production control expeditor where he worked for 40 years. After working all day, he would attend night classes and graduated with an Associate in Arts degree from Long Beach City College. As a sports fan, Louis loved Angels baseball and UCLA football. Also he really enjoyed watching rugby on television. No one knows why.
Survivors include his wife Jeannine, son David (Debby Unoura) of Torrance, and daughter Diana (Jim Goslige) of Westminster. He is also survived by his uncle, Kenneth Sasseen of Texas, and cousin Ron Thompson of Arizona, and numerous other relatives in and around Cozad, Nebraska.
Miller-Jones Mortuary, Hemet is assisting the family. Graveside service will be held (time date still pending) with burial following at Riverside National Cemetery.
