Lowell Kenneth Robillard was born on December 28,1925 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He moved to Southern California in 1930 where he shared close-knit family ties with his brothers Phil, Danny and sisters Penny and late sister LaDonna. At the tender age of 18, Lowell enlisted in the United States Merchant Marines and sailed overseas during the war. Lowell was quite the athlete and had an affinity for weightlifting and gymnastics. (His family and friends all fondly recall his signature handstand.)
Upon his return to the U.S. in 1946, Lowell embarked on a life-long career in concessions repairing popcorn machines, soda fountains, and vending machines. His experience include the 7Up Bottling Company, Mr. Dee-Lish, ABC, and Ogden Foods. In 1970, while on consignment with Ogden Foods, Lowell crowned himself "The Popcorn King" of his own business, L&R Service, which he ran for over 20 years. Lowell's congenial nature and quality of work led him to a thriving livelihood for a large blended family. He trained his two sons, Alan and Gary, in his trade.
In 1948, Lowell began to weave a family fabric of four children: Gary, Debbie, Linda, and late son Larry. As a lover of sports and man with a great sense of community, Lowell and the fellas built the Torrdondo Little League Field. He managed the concession stand, coached his sons teams, and met the love of his life, Dorothy May. In 1967, Lowell and Dorothy wed, weaving four more children into the family fabric: Alan, Barbara, Debbie and Donald. Lowell and Dorothy shared a romantic 44 years of marriage. They traveled all over the United States together: up the coast to San Francisco, across the plains to Amish Country and upstate New York, and over the Pacific to Hawaiian Paradise. Life, for Lowell, was a grand adventure in which God and family remained his anchor.
In 1990, Lowell and Dorothy moved to Seven Hills retirement community in Hemet, CA where they actively participated in poker night, fashion shows and the "Old-Lympics." He took pleasure in his church family at Calvary Chapel Hemet. Lowell became everyone's friendly neighbor at Heritage Ranch in San Jacinto, CA in 2000, where he is survived by his wife Dorothy May Robillard. Together they have 26 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren of whom he has loved individually. Nothing was ever as important to Lowell as being present for his family and friends. His wife says, "I Will Never Stop Loving You." As of Septermber 24, 2011, his cheerful smile, and a friendly chat, are being enjoyed by all in Heaven.
Services will be held Thursday, October 6, 2011, at Calvary Chapel 26121 Hemet Street in Hemet. Internment will be held at Riverside National Cemetery.
