On June 25, 2019 Manuel Escoto, loving father and grandfather went home to be with his Lord and Heavenly Father. Manuel was 94. He was the last of his siblings, there were 11 brothers and sisters. Manuel was born in La Verne, California to Manuel Escoto and Maria Delgado from San Juan de Los Lago, Jalisco, Mexico.
Manuel lived in Moreno Valley, California since 1988. He was known as LiL Pa to his grandkids and as Uncle or Tio Pinkie to his nieces and nephews.
Manuel is survived by his three sons Steve Escoto (Nancy), David Escoto (Karen) and Victor Escoto (Josie), eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Manuel joined the Army in World War II and served with the 182nd Regiment that was assigned to the Americal Division in the Pacific. The 182nd is the oldest Army Regiment formed in 1636 from Massachusetts for protection of the colony. In World War II Manuel served on the Solomon Islands and the Philippines. He was also with the occupational forces in Japan at the end of the war until December 1945. He received the Bronze Star for Valor and gained the rank of Sergeant. He was always proud of his service to his country.
After the war Manuel went on to Barber College and was a barber until he became a Barber Instructor in 1962 until his retirement. While a barber he owned a barber shop with his brother Adam in Coachella, in San Fernando Valley, and in Montebello. He was known as the flat top expert.
On Monday July 8th viewing will held at 9AM to 10AM at Miller Jones Mortuary in Moreno Valley located on Sunnymead Blvd. Service will follow from 10AM to 11AM at the same location. Internment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Pomona at 1:30PM. Lil Pa will be sorely missed and loved by us all. He led a good life and it is reflected on his family.
