Peggy grew up in Long Beach, lived and taught in Europe with her first husband, Ron, and raised a daughter in Connecticut and California. She was an elementary school teacher in Greenwich, CT and Marin County, CA. Later, Peggy helped establish the Prison Law Office outside San Quentin Prison in California which focused on improving confinement conditions in California prisons and supported families of prisoners. Peggy had a long career in Human Resources at McDonnell-Douglas and the cities of Torrance and Hemet.
After she retired, she and her late husband, Marv, were very active in supporting Valley Restart Homeless Shelter in Hemet. Peggy was also involved in a number of other local organizations including the Diamond Valley Arts Council, Community Concerts, Hemet Library Foundation and the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship.
Peggy was passionate about politics, poetry, social Justice, neatness and licorice. Recently she said, “one of the most important things in my life has been my friendships.” She had a devoted circle of friends who will miss her very much.
One of her very favorite poets was WS Merwin, whom she saw once in Idyllwild. Below is a brief poem from him when we think of Peggy.
"Your absence has gone through me like a thread through a needle.
Everything I do is stitched with its color."
She is survived by her beloved daughter Andrea Kissack (Nancy Warren) and her late husband Marv’s children Marilyn Robertson (Curt), Lori Sloan (Jim), Jim Nottingham (Robin).
If you would like to do something to honor Peggy, please send a donation to Valley Restart (200 E Menlo Ave, Hemet, CA 92543) or to MSF/Doctors without Borders (https://www.doctorswithoutborders.org/). These are two organizations she believed were very important and supported. There will be a celebration of life in the coming months.
