Was born on September 28, 1944 in Spartanburg, SC to Leornard Edward Mathis and Mamie Jeanette White.
Michael was the middle son of 3 children; Robert Mathis and Wesley Mathis.
Michael joined the Navy right after high school and served 3 tours aboard the USS Intrepid in Vietnam.
After returning home, he started his career as a traveling salesman until he retired.
Michael was preceded by his wife, Deborah, and both of his brothers.
Michael is survived by children; Eric, Julie, Cherri, Jodi, and Andrea, 10 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.
