Michael Joseph Smyth, age 53, of Wildomar, CA, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 20, 2013. Born in Ontario, Canada, Michael built a life in California over the past 30 years with his loving wife Ronda and his sons Sean and Kevin. His early career aspiration was to become a professional open wheel race car driver but after settling down, he channeled his competitive spirit into bicycling and became a fixture in the bicycling community, competing and touring with a large network of friends for three decades. He carried the Olympic torch locally as it made its way to Atlanta, Georgia en route to the 1996 Summer Olympics.
Michael was intelligent and intellectually curious and could converse on a wide range of topics. He was self-employed as a certified financial planner and helped many people with their goals. A man of great integrity, Michael incorporated his passion and conviction into every aspect of his work and personal life.
Michael was a strong-willed man who courageously battled and beat cancer in recent years. He is survived by his wife Ronda, sons Sean and Kevin, parents Vincent and Maria Smyth, brothers Vincent, Brendan and James, and sister Mary, along with their respective spouses and children.
Michael will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the American Cancer Society in memory of Michael.
