Pamela Marie Perez was born on July 24, 1957, in Escondido, California. As the firstborn among her siblings, her role as the older sister established the foundation of her heart and soul. Pam’s childhood built her resilience and toughness to endure the many challenges of life. She found her spiritual connection through Catholicism early on. The church was a safe space for Pam and became a central part of her life.
She learned independence quickly—until she met her husband of 43 years, Tony Perez. The story of how they met always made her children laugh: meeting at a friend’s party, discovering they shared the same last name, and then listing family members to make sure they weren’t somehow related. Shortly after that encounter, these two kindred spirits became inseparable. Tony fell for her wit, charm, beauty, strength, her ability to out-drink the guys, and the way she yelled at the TV when the San Diego Chargers were playing.
Pam had three beautiful, smart, and strong children. They were her entire world, and she was an incredible mother. Pam and Tony gave their children a different life than the one Pam experienced growing up. While Tony often took the lead in decision-making, Pam trusted that no matter where life took them, she would figure it out—just as she always did. Although both Pam and Tony worked hard, they never missed a major coming-of-age milestone for their children or their grandchildren.
She was the best grandmother to all three of them—her little “stinker bugs.” To her, those kids could do no wrong… unless they didn’t pick up after themselves, of course. Pam will always be remembered as the cleanest woman. Her family joked that you could eat off her bathroom floors. Her eye for detail was unmatched. She always wore matching outfits, beautiful jewelry, perfectly done nails and hair, and she had a remarkable ability to decorate each room of her home with its own coordinated color scheme—something that always impressed her guests.
But her most unforgettable talent was her cooking. She would spend the entire day in the kitchen and be the last to eat. Her famous rice was a staple at every gathering and celebration imaginable. She infused everything she made with flavor, love, and soul.
Pam’s spirit is now at peace in heaven with her husband, who also lost his life to cancer. Pam’s battle with endometrial cancer began in 2019, and her strength throughout the fight was unmatched. She was a warrior. A caregiver. A loyal friend. The kindest soul with a contagious laugh. She could light up any room with her energy—always the life of the party, unless she was busy yelling, “You are such a liar, Tony!”
Pam cared deeply for so many and prayed for countless people every day—a mother figure not only to her own children, but to many others as well. Her heart was big: big enough to forgive, big enough to cry with you, and big enough to be remembered forever.
Her family loved her beyond words. They are grateful for the life she gave them and everything she did to protect it. They will cherish every moment she showed up for them—every movie night with fresh popcorn, every Sunday night football game, every prayer text she sent, every conversation where she listened and supported them, every cheer she gave from the sidelines, and every dance they shared—forever.
