Aunt Mary,

We will all miss Uncle Ray dearly and are a lucky to have had him in our lives. One of the earliest memories I have is of him playing with us when we first moved to the states. He loved all kids, and I'll always remember how all kids gravitated towards him. It is a testament to his warm heart. Our thoughts and prayers are, and will continue to be with you and the rest of the family.

 I know of no words to fill the void and heartbreak of Ray's passing. One less "remarkable man" has left us for a better place.
Please know you are not alone as you are in my thoughts and prayers always. I feel very fortunate to of been able to know Ray and see what a kind, loving and considerate person he was. I would like to share the following with you. Love you my friends!

On my refrigerator door I have a quote from Mother Teresa. It's there so I can read it every day. It says: "We cannot all do great things, but we can do small things with great love." This past month or so with Ray's illness it has been especially important to me, because Ray was a guy who did what he did with great love. There was never a baby who couldn't be calmed in Uncle Ray's arms. He worked hard and with great dedication - we all know that - but he also was a guy who knew what was important, who "showed up" as my daughter Raquel has said- who was present to what needed to be done and just did it. With great love.

I first met Ray when he was on a rehab. leave visiting my niece, Mary. I liked the man right away. He never talked about his war injury or his handicap. He never felt the loss of his leg was a handicap. Ray came to work for Hertz as my evening manager at the airport. His shift was the toughest. You're on your own. Ray was the strongest man for his size. He never complained. Mary told me that many days the blisters on his stump were raw, but, he never complained. Ray went on to work at the main post office for many years. He was such a good worker, then they transferred him to the main post office in Los Angeles. If I know Ray, he found a great lake in heaven with endless walleyes!

Dear Mary,
We are sending you and your family our love and good thoughts during this difficult time... and wish you well in the days/months to come. We want to help you and be there for you in your grief. The pain you are feeling in your heart must be unbearable. Please know you are not alone! You are always in our thoughts and prayers.

We are happy to have had the chance to meet Ray and gotten to know him a little - even if it was for a short time! He was a remarkable, strong and examplary person with good character and work ethics. We will miss him greatly!

Like a Brother
Mary, Ann, Marko, Eli and Cayla, my love, sympathy and condolences to all of you! Ray was not just a brother-in-law; he was more like a brother. I remember all the stuffed animals he and Mike won at the State Fair; when we got together at your apartment in Hawaiian Village; you and me visiting while Ray and Mike went fishing. My Brother
My condolences to Mary, Ann, Marko, Eli and Cayla. May God bless and watch over you! My beloved brother Ray was the best friend and brother I could have asked for. I have many good memories of growing up with him. Fishing was an activity that my brothers and I enjoyed to excess. We would go fishing every chance we got. Many of those times we were supposed to be working. Most of our family photos were with fish we caught.

We would make our annual visits to the Minnesota state fair. We had many good experiences there. Especially one year we had a competition to see who could win the most stuffed animals. We went to the midway to seek out booths which involved throwing baseballs at ceramic plates. Prior to going to the fair, we spent many hours throwing baseballs at a specific spot on our barn. Our competition ended when we were banned from playing at these booths. We left the fair with our cars filled with stuffed animals.

Growing up Ray and I would play cards at our folk's card parties. Ray was always lucky at cards. We would always try to be partners. He would bid with almost nothing in his hand and I would usually have the cards he needed to win.

I have many other fond memories too numerous to mention!! Ray will always be a part of my life. He will live on in my memories for the rest of my life. I wish the very best for Mary and her family.

John and I liked working with Ray at the St.Paul P&D. Thank you for our visits together when you came back for family vacations.
Can't think of anything else to say but so sorry you have to go through this pain. Stay strong.

Dear Mary, 
 My deepest sympathy to you and to your family. I know of no words to fill the void of Ray's passing. What I do know is that one less "good man" walks with us now. 
 Ray and I walked countless miles together at the St. Paul P&DC. To be honest, most of the time I was just trying to keep up with him. He took the time to show me much of what I know today about mail processing and about managing a Postal operation. 
 Ray's dedication to duty, to his boss and to his subordinates could only be matched by his dogged determination to improve. He held the strength of his convictions, was a man of action and was at times one of the most stubborn people I have ever known. It could be both awesome and maddening to witness. 
 Ray's sense of humor was subdued, dry and razor sharp. It was not uncommon that I would have to pause and do a double take to make sure I grasped the full measure of his wit. Some never really got it when Ray was having fun, and he found that amusing as well.
 Ray was one of my heroes, one of my mentors and he had an impact on my life. His courage throughout our time together is beyond admirable. I am lucky to have known him. 
 I will miss my friend.

It seems like yesterday when Ray arrived in the City of Angels, off the air plane and direct to work he went. He was a valued LAP&DC team member and was respected in every way.

We lost a great friend and family man in Ray this week. Personally, Ray was an inspiration for me and actually for all his Postal friends. Everywhere he worked, he made it a better place to be. As you know, he worked all 3 shifts in St. Paul and bounced back and forth to where ever he was needed most. (Many at my request on short notice) He never once complained, he just dug in and led by example. People responded to his quiet style and the way he treated everyone with dignity and respect. We were all very excited when you and Ray decided to come to California. He did an awsome job in Los Angeles but it was Moreno Valley where he really had a chance to show what he could do. Ray took a good place to work and made it not only a great place to work but did it in a way where he will have a lasting impact.

There are so many great stories to share about Ray. I look forward to our visit.

Uncle Ray. Kiddo. We loved him so much and will miss him now. I am so sorry for his loss Aunt Mary, Anne, Marko, kids! I don't have the ability to write everything here that's in my heart, so many good things to say about this wonderful person who always showed up and did what needed to be done without complaint or selfishness. A truly giving, kind uncle to us, and a greatuncle to my sons. He will be missed so much.

Mary and Family, I am so sorry for your loss. Ray was a great, great man! I always remember him being kind, caring, and generous. There was something special about him that made those of us around him better people. In my eyes, he defined the word warrior! Ray was the guy that you wanted on your side. He gave his all in everything he did; whether it be for his country, the Postal Service, or most importantly his family and friends. You were his pride and joy. He always lit up when telling stories about the farm and he was like a kid in the candy store when talking about his family and grandkids. My thoughts and prayers are you all.

We were so saddened to hear of Ray's death. We haven't seen him for years but we have thought of him often. Gordy and Ray spent many hours together growing up. In fact, he was best man at our wedding. We have so many good memories of things that we did together, but especially Gordy. Him and Ray and Pete Kaufmann were like the 3 musketeers---where one was, the other two would be right behind. Please know that you have our deepest sympathy!!!

Im sad to here about ray. He was a very close friend to my mom and dad. Its never easy to say good bye.i will always remember them fishing for hours,even in the rain! I hope you find comfort and peace with your memories and the times you shared.think of happy times and hold them close to your heart.Becky

Twins
When Ray (and Family) invited me to live with them in the 90's before I left for Germany, Ray had a surprise organized. He took me to a Twins game.

It was an amazing day. So American. With Hot Dogs (even though I don't like them much, that day they tasted great), Pop (He obviously had Mountain Dew, I had a Crystal Pepsi at the time, I am sure) and the Ballgame.

To this day, and trust me there isn't much in my home I carry from place to place where I live, I have the Baseball with all the Twins' signatures. It's traveled the world with me and it's still on my night stand, along with very little other memorabilia.

I will always have it. As much as I will always have good memories of Ray. Not a single bad one. About how many people can we say that?

My thoughts and prayers are with Ray's family at this time. I didn't know Ray personally, but as the San Diego District Safety Manager I had many occasions to work with him. He was very conscientious about "Safety" and he cared about the wellbeing of his employees. I am sure that he will be truly missed. May God bless your family during this difficult time.
