Richard was born March 9, 1948 in Ogden, Utah, to Burton A. and Marie S. Cole. He graduated from Viewmont High School in 1966 in Bountiful, Utah, and the University of Utah in 1975 in accounting. During the Vietnam War, he served as a radarman in the U.S. Navy. He audited for U.S. Housing and Urban Development and the Department of Defense, where he earned many citations for excellence, as well as for Riverside County Department of Human Services and others. Reporting his employers' mistakes and misdeeds was stressful, and he spent his last working years reading gas meters.
Richard was a big guy with a clever, impish character. He was fun-loving, generous, caring, loyal and forgiving, meeting challenges head on and anticipating greater happiness ahead. He admired women and loved romantic, uplifting music, classic movies, computers and the internet, animals, children, gardening, cooking, and following favorite sports teams like Utah Jazz. He became a devoted Jehovah's Witness.
Richard is survived by siblings Rodney W. (Donna Gardino) Cole, Fairbanks, AK.; Gary Thomas Cole, Santee, CA.; Diane M. (Dennis Green) Cole, Temecula, CA.; Robert Alan (Marion) Cole, Oxnard, CA. Dick added much to their lives and will be deeply missed.
