Thomas Reid Leonhardt, 67, of Temecula CA died at his home on December 2, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer. Tom was born on November 24, 1951 in Richmond IN to Mac Reid and Phyllis (Rohe) Leonhardt.
Although Tom lived most of his life in California, he always cherished his Hoosier roots. We will always remember him for his wry sense of humor and the stories he would tell about growing up in a small Midwestern town during the 1960's. He graduated from Richmond High School in 1969.
Tom became a part of history in August 1969 when he attended the Woodstock Music Festival. Throughout life he maintained a love for music, with special admiration for the electric guitar legends of his generation.
Tom served in the United States Navy for over 22 years as a data analyst, giving him the opportunity to travel the world. As a young sailor during the Vietnam War era, he was stationed at Subic Bay in the Philippines. There he met his soulmate, Juana Necitas Betonio, who he married in 1974. After a long and happy marriage, Tom was blessed by the loving hands of his wife who cared for him during his final illness.
Besides his wife, Tom is survived by Susanette (Mike) Plizga of Goodyear AZ, son Mac Steven (Janeth) Leonhardt of Murietta CA, and his grandsons, Joshua and Andrew. Tom had three loving sisters: Rosemary Pierson of Richmond IN, Becky Turnbaugh of Summerfield FL and Susan (Jeff) Semb of San Diego CA. He will be fondly remembered by his aunts Susanne (Clem) Lahrman of Hagerstown IN and Joanna Sheetz of Concord, NC as well as his nieces, grandnieces, nephews and grandnephews.
The family is grateful to Hospice of the Valleys for their excellent care and support during Tom's final weeks of life.
No services are planned.
We will always carry your memory in our hearts.
