Toby David Mort was born in Rochester, MN on October 10, 1942. He was the only son of Harold David Mort and Betty Ann Norris Mort. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Lynne McElhoe Mort, two daughters, Jennifer Brooke and Tamara Whitten, fifteen (15) grandchildren and his sisters, Linda Mort of Wisconsin and Stephani Pine of Alaska.
Toby grew up in Waukesha, WI. He was industrious and hardworking from an early age with a newspaper route and later working at a local radio station. His interest in radio was lifelong, both for ham radio (W6PXD) and as a DJ at various radio stations: DJ at WMRI in Marion, IN while attending college, later at WCMI in Elkhart, IN and in recent years at KPLM in Palm Springs.
He met his wife, Joyce, at Taylor University in Upland, IN when they were freshmen. Both graduated with degrees from Taylor and recently celebrated 56 years of marriage. After a short career in the mobile home business, both in Elkhart, IN and in Hemet, CA, Toby changed careers and became a financial advisor, first with Paine-Weber in Hemet and then with Edward Jones & CO. He has had a Jones office in Hemet since 1989. He was still going to his office until the week before his death.
Toby has been a faithful husband, father, grandfather, community worker and “voice of the Bulldogs” (Hemet High School). More importantly, Toby was a faithful follower of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. “Return to your rest, my soul, for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you.” Psalm 116:7
A memorial “celebration of life” service is being planned for September 21, 2019, at 1:00PM at Fellowship Baptist Church in Hemet.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Neuroendocrine Tumor Research Foundation, netrf.org.
