

Walter Jacob Hopp, 90 of Hemet, passed away at Hemet Valley Medical Center shortly after he was found unresponsive. His ashes will be interred with his wife in a columbarium at Riverside National Cemetery.
Water was born December 13, 1924, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In December of 1950, he married Opal B. Nye in Keokuk, Iowa. He served in WWII and again as a reservist for the Korean War as an U.S. Navy Aviation Machinist's Mate First Class until his discharge in 1954. He was a long time resident of Hemet, Ocotillo and San Diego where he and his wife raised their daughters. He enjoyed travelling, computers, scientific discoveries, and was a long time ham radio operator until he lost his voice to a stroke. His family was very important to him and they enjoyed many U.S. driving vacations together. He was loved the desert and the projects that came with the 40 acres he owned. He was a spend thrift and preferred to pay cash and save a penny wherever possible. He often reminded the women in his life that if they didn't have something nice to say about someone they should keep it to themselves.
Walter is proceeded in death is wife, Opal, his parents, Walter and Cora Hopp; his brother William. Mr. Hopp worked many years as an automotive service writer and retired from Mercedes Benz at the age of 65.
Walter is survived by his daughter Jennie (Dave) Meissenburg, Rimforest, CA; grandson Daniel Meissenburg; grandson Joshua (Meghan) Meissenburg; two great-grandchildren Zooey and Maddox Meissenburg and his daughter Cora (James) Fields, Otto, NC.
