

Walter Richard Schlenz, age 83, passed away peacefully at his home in Hemet ,CA on Wednesday, July 18, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on Friday, February 22, 1929 in Maywood, CA to Earnest and Anna Schlenz. Walter married his childhood sweetheart, Geneva McCleary on October 24, 1947. Walter was extremely dedicated to his family, his community, and to his Lord, Jesus Christ. He was always doing something for someone else. Walter was a Fix-It Man and a problem solver. He enjoyed the outdoors and would spend much of his time working on his tractor. Walter retired in 1993 as the executive director of Idyllwild Pines Camp after more than 30 years there. He also served on the Idyllwild Fire Department as a volunteer, firefighter, EMT, and finally as the Fire Commissioner.
Walter is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Geneva Schlenz; his son, Paul (Candy) Schlenz of Hemet, CA; his daughters, Terrill (Darrell) Chilson of Rio Linda, CA and Connie (Dane) Cagle of Redlands, CA; 8 grandchildren, Tara, Jeff, Jennifer, Carrie, Danika, Ryan, Kelly, and Aimee; 18 great grandchildren; his brother, John Schlenz, of CA and sister, Esther Brown of OK.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the Hemet Church of the Nazarene, 42655 East Florida Avenue, Hemet, CA 92544.
Walter touched many lives and will be truly missed by all those who were honored to know him and who loved him.
