Brian Leslie Inkeles of New Windsor, NY passed away at his home on March 1, 2015 after a valiant battle with cancer.
Brian was born December 5, 1947 in Manhattan to the late Irving and Sylvia (Sheir) Inkeles. He graduated from General Douglas MacArthur High School in Levittown and grew up in Seaford. He graduated from SUNY New Paltz with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1969. While at New Paltz he was a member of the fraternity Tau Omicron Pi and was integral in the purchase of the Topper House. He later earned two Masters Degrees in education and administration from SUNY New Paltz.
As a respected educator, Brian taught Spanish for 34 years in the Monroe-Woodbury School District at the middle school and the high schools; additionally, he was the Foreign Language Department Chair Person from the late 1980’s until his retirement in 2003.
Brian was held in high regard in the Newburgh Jewish community where he served twice as President of Congregation Agudas Israel and was active in the Chabad of Eastern Orange County.
Brian is survived by his son, Marc (Isabel) Inkeles and his grandchildren Alicia and Dylan, of Hauppauge, NY; his daughter, Meredith Inkeles of New Windsor, NY; his friend and companion, Diane Davis; his brothers Bennett (Ellen) Inkeles and Jarrett (Judi) Inkeles of California; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held graveside on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at 1pm at the Beth David Cemetery at 300 Elmont Road, Elmont NY 11003, officiated by Cantor Endre Stamler. The family will be sitting Shiva Tuesday from 6-9pm with prayers at 7pm, Wednesday 1-5pm and 6-9pm with prayers at 8pm, Saturday 6:30-9:30pm with prayers at 7pm, and Sunday 2-8pm with prayers at 7pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Chabad of Eastern Orange County, 845 Little Britain Rd, New Windsor, NY 12553.
