Betty Jo Resler, age 93, passed away October 3rd, peacefully at home with her family by her side. Betty was born in Clinton, Oklahoma, on January 11, 1920, and was one of nine brothers and sisters. She grew up in Arapaho, Oklahoma. She met Dad country dancing. It was love at first sight and they danced every weekend for years. After Betty graduated from high school she accepted Dad’s proposal and they were married March 19, 1939, and shortly thereafter moved to Missouri. In 1943, they packed up, and with their two boys, Leonard, born February 29, 1940, and, Ron born July 12, 1943, moved to Boulder City.
Ed began a new career with Water and Power, as an electrician, at Hover Dam. Betty did some babysitting and took in ironing to help pay the bills. In January 1946, they were blessed with their daughter, Susan. In 1953, Betty began working as a housekeeper at Boulder City Hospital, eventually earning her license as a practical nurse. A few years later she became a surgical technician and when the new hospital opened she was placed in charge of central supplies. After working 33 years for the hospital she decided to retire.
As the matriarch, Betty taught the family many of her life’s lessons, and was often heard saying “Nothing comes easy; you have to work hard for whatever you get in life.”
Betty was an outstanding seamstress and a fantastic cook. The family always enjoyed Sunday dinners with Mom and Dad. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed being around her kids, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Her favorite past time was watching her two boys play football and her daughter cheerlead. She loved to watch golf and UNLV football and basketball on TV, and to sit and listen to her old time music.
Betty is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Sharon Resler of Middleton, Idaho; daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Rick Traasdahl of Las Vegas, Nevada; daughter-in-law Marie Resler of Jacksonville, Oregon; seven grandchildren; five great grand- children; brother Wayne Stocks of Denton, Texas; brother-in-law Joe Howard of St. George, Utah. Betty is preceded in death by her husband Ed, and son Leonard Resler.
In lieu of flowers, Betty would have loved for you to donate to the Boulder City hospital. Services are being held Friday, October 11, at Palm Mortuary, at 200 S Boulder Highway at 2:00 P.M.
Grandma Betty, you will be greatly missed! Thank you for the life lessons you taught us and the wisdom and strength you showed us through good and bad times. We love you Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma. You’re the best!
