

Calvin Brooks, age 65, of Henderson, Nevada passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2020. Calvin was born February 27, 1955 in Michigan to his parents William and Rose Brooks. A Native of Detroit Michigan, Calvin was a resident of Henderson, Nevada since 1999.
Calvin Brooks was born February 27, 1955 in Detroit, Michigan to the late William and Rose Brooks. Calvin attended the Detroit Public Schools, graduating from King High School, continuing his education at the University of Michigan, majoring in education and music.
Calvin’s love of music started at an early age, playing rubber bands on a cigar box, although Calvin was naturally right-handed, he played the guitar with his left hand. Calvin received his first guitar at the age of seven and fell in love with his “hollow body guitar”, listening to the jazz greats building a strong melodic tone of his own.
Through strong determination and dedication, Calvin made his dream a reality by arranging and producing many recordings, such as “Rose my Dear”, in honor of his mother Rose Brooks. Calvin was known as a gifted guitarist whose professional career consisted of him playing with several artists and performing all over the world.
In 1978 Calvin became the proud father of a son named Calvin Nathaniel Brooks, who proceeded him in death. Calvin married Cheryl in May of 1999 and they relocated to Las Vegas, and although Calvin relocated to Las Vegas, he always made time to come back home to the city of Detroit to perform.
Calvin made a name for himself in Las Vegas, performing at several casinos, conventions and private engagements. Calvin was known for that big smile and was very approachable and loved by everyone who knew him, and was lucky enough to hear his music.
Calvin gave his life to the Lord and was baptized in November, 2002. Calvin made his transition on September 17, 2020 and is blessing Heaven with his music.
Calvin leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Cheryl; his stepsons, Lamar (Suhan), Terrence
(Tremesha), and Dorian; his grandchildren: Calvin Nathaniel II, Elijah, Faith, Karon and Aliyah;
brothers: Warren (Carolyn) and Tim (Mary); sisters: Roseanne and Emily; and a host of nieces,
nephews, cousins, friends and a very special friend “Melvin Robinson”.
Calvin Brooks will be laid to rest at Lincoln Memorial Park, in Clinton Township, Michigan.
