Darlene Dee Bernard, age 89, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away on Sunday April 5, 2020. She was born March 2, 1931 at Hollywood Clara Barton Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles, California to Jack and Harriet Green.

Darlene lived her early years in Santa Monica, California with her parents and older sister, Ann Louise. The family relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada in the early 1940's where she would attend Las Vegas High School; graduating in 1949. Darlene went on to work for and manage Western American Insurance Company.

In 1952, Darlene married Richard Earl Bernard. Together they had four children from 1954 to 1960. Family was the most important thing to Darlene. She left the public work force to maintain her home, nurture and raise her children.

After her children were grown and raised, Darlene went on to pursue her education, attended nursing school at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She continued her education at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona; graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. Following her graduation , Darlene moved to Salem, Missouri for four years to be close to her daughter Julie McNeal. Due to health reasons, she returned to Las Vegas.

Darlene was a devout believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, and studied her Bible intently. She pursued a ministry with Hope Chaplains at University Medical Center in Las Vegas for over 25 years praying for the sick and working in various capacities, including Treasurer and President. She was very generous with her time and resources in supporting various charities and Christian ministries to include ministering in various capacities within Messianic Jewish congregations, and visiting and praying for the sick in the hospitals.

Darlene was a loving and devoted mother. She was passionate about her children and family. She loved to cook delicious meals for her family, living the desert, specifically the Las Vegas valley; and horseback riding. She enjoyed knitting, needlepoint, solving crossword puzzles, and shopping for stylish clothes and shoes to wear. Darlene was also an avid fan of baseball, and closely followed the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Darlene was proceeded in death by her parents Jack and Harriet Green; and one grandchild, Alex Hensen. She is survived by her four siblings: Ann Larriviere (Robley), Rosemary Nooner, Judy Dannan, and Joseph Ross (Kathy); four children: Julie McNeal (Stanford), Matthew Bernard, Patrick Bernard (Leah), and Amber Hensen; 13 grandchildren: Moto McNeal (Rebecca), D'ette Miller (Keenan), Solomon McNeal (Brittany), Samson McNeal, Levi, Zoe, Adrian Bernard (Sarah), Erin Jones (James), Noel Needham, Elijah Bernard, Eva Bernard, and Tayler Henson; and 13 great grandchildren: Atticus, Titus, Micah, Gabriel, Noah, Ezra, Asher, Zeriah, Micah, Avram, Dean, Seth, and Tabitha.

Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, all services will be private gatherings at the funeral home and cemetery.
