I only knew DeVan for a few years but he was a kind and gentle soul, my condolences go out to all of his family...RIP DeVan...

When DeVan was twelve and Glen was only two years old, we were with our dad and our twelve foot fisherman's boat. Glen was playing in the water while in the boat he was leaning over too far and fell in. DeVan put down his fishing pole and jumped in fully clothed and brought him back inside the boat.

In Victor Village in Henderson, Nevada, in the last 1950s and early 1960s, we had a red ride on tractor that you could pedal like a trike. DeVan used it to pull our little red Flyer wagon. I sat towards the back, Glen sat in front of me, so that I could make sure he didn't tip out. There was a rectangular sidewalk inside the surrounding apartments where he drove us around.

Running was a pasttime that we enjoyed whenever we were sent to the store. We would see who could get to Safeway first. We had to cross Boulder Highway so sometimes we had to wait on the side closest to Ocean Avenue for cars heading for Boulder City to go past us. Then we went to the median in the middle waiting for the the cars heading to Las Vegas to go past. We always crossed the highway together. DeVan was always the big brother, not letting me run out into the street alone.


My heart goes out to you for the loss of Devan. I hope your happy memories will help you through this difficult time.

I know I can’t make your pain go away, but I want you to know I’m here for you with a shoulder to cry on or an ear to listen with, or anything else you may need.

I will miss his cheerful greetings when he answer the phone. Being a man of few words, he would get the niceties out of the way and say, "Here's your aunt..." Short and to the point.

I'm glad we got to see him before his passing.

The book that was Devan had a tough leather cover that was well worn and covered with stains.  But, the book, the person, had an intriguing story to tell.  The beginning is filled with tragedy, hardship and challenge but Devan approached life with directness and clarity.  While Devan was not a simple man by any means he lived by simple guidelines; work hard, do what you think is right, and relax when you can.
Devan made many, many, friends throughout his life who appreciated him for who he was.  If Devan liked you then he liked you, if he didn’t like you then he didn’t like you, not a lot of grey area with Devan.  However, Devan cared about people more than he showed.
Devan also had a dry sense of humor that he and I had in common.  The irony of life was not lost on either of us.  Understanding that complexity is just a bunch of simple things combined is a mentality we shared.
I looked up to my brother because there was no pretense with him, he simply was who he was.  The people that loved Devan loved him for that very reason.
I was happy and comforted to know that Devan was surrounded by love in the last chapters of his life and passed with the living angel Lillian by his side.    


Devan wasn't a very talkative man, but enjoyed listening what you had to share. His passion was going fishing for large mouth bass when he had a chance.  He enjoyed  spending time with his granddaughter Jylyn now (28) & now has a daughter Rzy (4 ) his great granddaughter who like to sit with greatgrandpa and read. Devan enjoyed when his son Larry would pick him up for breakfast, or the calls sharing how the road trips were going.  It touched his heart.  Devan didn't show his emotions, but he'd be the first one to cry at a Hallmark Movie. He had a rough life, had struggles, but pulled through it & turned his life around with 20yrs of sobriety.
