Douglas Leroy Edman, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 28, 2022, at the young age of 85 in Summerlin, Nevada. He was originally an Angelino and was born July 16, 1937 in Los Angeles, California at the Queen of Angels Hospital to Otis Edman and Lucille Wien. Doug had two siblings; his sister Arlouise White, and his baby sister, Sharon Burgess.
Douglas Leroy Edman was a veteran of the US Coast Guard and served during the Korean war. He was later awarded a vocational teaching degree after studying at UC Berkley and University of Reno. He would often say, I spent 10 years in jail. If you talked to him long enough he would tell you countless stories of the his inmate auto body and fender students. It is no wonder that his son would eventually follow in his father’s footsteps, spending most of his life in the automotive industry.
Doug also loved to say he was married 5 times to 3 women. He’d get the funniest reactions and eventually would explain he married 2 of his 3 wives twice, including, Brenda.
His son and daughter-in-law find solace in knowing that Doug lived with them and his granddaughters Deseriee and Destiny practically since they were married and up until his last 20 days of life.
It is no coincidence that Douglas is being laid to rest this veterans day weekend. He was a proud veteran of the US Coast Guard and told countless stories of his Lighthouse station in Cape Saint Elias off the southwest coast of Alaska during the Korean War. One of his family's favorite stories was about how they would air drop supplies from airplanes and they had to swim out to get the supplies in the ocean sometimes. On one of those airdrops was a Bible from his mom and dad; he was 18 years old.
it is also no coincidence that October 16th was the last day they saw Douglas. They went to his retirement home to take him his favorite cereal and to see how he was doing. He had only been there one week and his family missed him dearly. Sadly he would only be there another 12 days.
Doug was charming, gentle, a believer and an avid Christian of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. He was sober over 20 years and enjoyed attending AA meetings; especially in Thousand Oaks and Malibu. Doug was a great pool player, played tennis, softball, ping pong, bowling, loved poker, Rumy, played Chess and loved square dancing. He lived his life to the fullest, and will truly be missed.
Douglas is survived by his son, Eric Edman, and his wife Carmen; and daughter, Kelly Proper; grandchildren: Deseriee Edman, Destiny Edman, Casey Nix, David Proper, Joshua Proper and Catherine Proper; one great granddaughter, Haley Proper; sisters: Arlouise White and Sharon Burgess, and many loving relatives and friends.
Douglas will be laid to rest with military honors on Monday, November 14, 2022 at 12:00 PM at the Southern Nevada Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veteran's Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV 89005.
