

Edith Ann Pickens, age 92, of Las Vegas, Nevada passed away on Friday, July 14, 2023. She was born in Martins Ferry, in Belmont County; Ohio to her parents Hayden and Edith Woods. She was raised with her twin brothers: Hayden and Harlan, and her sister, Cherrella. Edith had a very active childhood. She enjoyed playing games like kickball, tetherball and dodgeball; and spending time with her friends, while looking after her siblings. When Edith got to highschool, she added to her activities by joining Glee Club, Mixed Chorus, and Singing. Edith Graduated from Lowell High School in 1948.
At and early age, Edith started a family; which she was blessed with 5 children. To support her family she worked as a bookkeeper and accountant for various companies such as Aerokraft, Gemco, and then Lucky's Grocery.
On August 11, 1961, Edith's life would change forever when she would marry the love of her life, Hugh Martin Pickens Jr. at at chapel wedding in Las Vegas. Together they would blend their lives and families, and embark on a journey that would span over the next 61 years.
Edith was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother, who lived her life for her family. She was outgoing and adventurous in her younger years, participating in league bowling, jogging, and like to take walks with her husband, Hugh. She loved to Dance, gather tulips, and collect recipes, and experiment with preparing them. She loved to travel, taking trips to Hawaii, Africa, and to Lake Powell; where her family would gather for two weeks a year, BBQing and experimenting with different cultural dinners at night. In her spare time, she loved to watch Tennis, Jeopardy, Family Feud, and playing video poker in her favorite casinos.
Edith lived her life to the fullest, taking advantage of every opportunity to experience something new. She loved her family and friends, and her poodle,Pookie, and Loushon, a Maltese. She was kind, caring and loving and will truly be missed.
Edith was preceded in death by her son, Douglas A. Reid; father, Hayden O. Woods; mother, Edith A. Woods; brother, Hayden Woods; sister-in-law, Hanna Woods, and her sister, Cherrella Monteith (Robert). She is survived by her husband, Hugh M. Pickens; her children: Gigi A. Stephens (Mark); David S. Reid (Dolores), Derrick M. Reid (Tatiyana), and Debra E. Jakubiac (Brian); sister-in-law, Patricia Woods; brother Harlan Woods; eight grandchildren: Tiffany N. Alvernaz (David), Christopher Reid (Jennifer), Michael Stephens (Autumn), Ryan Stephens, Stephon Reid, Jamison Reid (Ali), Vanessa Reid Sanchez, Nikoli Reid, and Vanya Reid; and her great great granddaughter, Heidi Alvernaz.
A visitation for Edith will be held Thursday, July 27, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be Friday, July 28, 2023 at 10:30 AM, both at Palm Boulder Highway Mortuary, 800 South Boulder Highway, Henderson, NV 89015. Edith will be laid to rest at 12:00 PM noon at the Southern Nevada Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veteran's Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV 89005.
