Esperanza Melchora Obasi

It is with heavy hearts and so many fond memories that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, professor, nurse, prankster, and all-around force of nature, Mel Obasi, on March 9, 2026, in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the age of 71.

Mel lived a vibrant, laughter-filled life full of healing hands, sharp jokes, crocheted blankets, crossword triumphs, passionate faith, and endless love for her family, her church, her students, her dog Danny Boy, and anyone lucky enough to know her. She danced through life with joy, pranked with precision, and loved fiercely—leaving every room brighter.

She is survived by her devoted husband OE (retired dermatologist and official shenanigan tolerator), her children Ana (married to Stephen) and Tito (married to Tracey), her adored grandchildren Raffy, Abby, and Aly, her six cherished siblings—Caloy, Joe, Mary, Olet, Chart, and Tess—along with their families, and countless friends, colleagues, and former students whose lives she touched deeply.

A **Celebration of Life** will be held on **Saturday, April 18, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM** at**Palm Boulder Highway Mortuary and Cemetery** 800 South Boulder Highway Henderson, NV 89015.

A **Funeral Mass** will take place earlier that day on **Saturday, April 18, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM** at**St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church**2300 Sunridge Heights Parkway Henderson, NV 89052.

Everyone who loved Mel—or who could use a good laugh and a warm hug—is warmly welcome to attend both services. Come as you are; she’d insist on it. Bring your favorite bad joke to share, and maybe a dance move or two.

In her memory, please tell a terrible pun, pet a dog, finish a crossword, or simply love someone loudly—the way Mel always did.
