

Floyd “Sonny” J. Rowland, 88, of Henderson Nevada passed away peacefully at his home Friday, August 25, 2023. He was born in Holtville, California, the oldest child of James Floyd Rowland and Uda Naomi Dickey.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Norman and Doug; and sisters: Bonnie and Colleen. He is survived by his beautiful wife and love of his life, Maria Delia Rowland; his youngest brother, Keith Rowland; three daughters: Johnnie Collmar, Melo Eversole, and Ria Panambitan; and two sons: Martin and Patrick Rowland. Floyd was blessed with 18 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.
Floyd proudly served in the United States Navy and fought for his country in the Korean War. After his service in the Navy, Floyd worked as a control operator in several power plants, concluding his career at the Hoover Dam. Not being one to sit still, in his retirement he added security guard and blackjack dealer to his resume before he left the workforce to enjoy his free time at home for the remainder of his days.
Floyd was always looking for his next adventure. His hobbies and interests were many, from working on race cars to flying remote-controlled airplanes, woodworking, zooming around the lake on his jet ski, photography, computers, embroidery, boating, fishing, and visiting the disco till 3 a.m. well into his 80’s. He loved the heat of the desert and could be found, even on those 110+ degree days, with a cup of hot coffee in hand ready to go on his next adventure. His favorite thing of all was spending time with his family and seeing his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow. He was a loving son, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather and is already terribly missed by those he left behind.
Floyd’s family and friends will hold a celebration of his life on his 89th birthday, and the following day, will be laid to rest with military honors in a private ceremony at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, in Boulder City, Nevada.
A military honors service for Floyd will be held Monday, November 20, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City, Nevada 89005.
