Gene Jay Cobb, 85, passed away on August 22, 2022, after a valiant fight against Alzheimer’s disease. He was born on March 18,1937 to Ross and Lena Cobb in Brigham City, Utah. The eldest of four children, he joined the Army in 1963. After serving his two year military commitment, he moved to southern Nevada where the confirmed bachelor met his future wife Janet, nee McClelland.
Married in 1967, Janet came with a ready-made family of five children and a feisty mother-in-law.
Gene was a welder by trade but a cowboy at heart. He retired from welding after 30+ years which allowed him more time to enjoy his passions of camping, hunting, fishing, shooting, gardening and visiting his Utah family. Even in retirement, he believed the day began at dawn with a cup of coffee and a walk with friends at the mall. A horse and dog lover, Gene would readily share stories of his future and past hunting and fishing adventures. Conversations often ended with his invitation to share a meal where he would confidently offer his opinions on the state of world affairs.
Gene is preceded in death by Janet, his wife of 40 years, as well as his parents, Ross and Lena Cobb, and younger brother, Ross. He is survived by his sisters, Mary Ann Lloyd and Bonnie Ivie; his children, Kathy (Steve) Weitz, Mary Ann Kleven, Sandra (Ben) Kramer, Mark Cobb and Elizabeth (Andre) Holmes; 19 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service is planned for September 17, 2022, 11:00 a.m. at Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Hwy in Henderson, NV. Interment is October 12, 2022, 11:20 a.m. at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive in Boulder City, NV. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Gene’s memory to the Kleven Scholarship Fund at https://engage.unlv.edu/kleven where a yearly scholarship is awarded to a doctoral student researching for a cure of Alzheimer’s disease at UNLV’s Center for Brain Health.
