George Franklin Price Sr, 75, of Henderson, Nevada, passed away February 10, 2013. George is predeceased by: his wife Alice July 2010; son George Franklin Price Jr, June 2007; both parents ~Herman Creek and Viola Unger; his brothers Bob, Richard.
George was born in Pennsylvania on November 16, 1937, and raised in Northern California. He was stationed in Virginia while serving in the Army as a sharpshooter assigned to the vehicle fleet from 1959 to 1962. He moved back to California after leaving the service where among many side jobs, he worked on the railroad as an engineer with his father Herman for many years.
After moving to Henderson in 1968, He married Alice Sessions on June 25, 1971. Alice brought three young children to their union; Lauri Middleton (Richard Middleton), Lisa Darcy and Kelly Draper (Tracey Badgeley). Combined, the three older children now have five children of their own; Christopher, Laura, Alice, Helen and Sarah, with eight and a half grandchildren ~ the newest addition due this fall to his granddaughter Sarah. Together, Alice and George had two children; Susan Price Brash (Howard Brash) and George Franklin Price Jr. ~ parents of; Mathew, George III, Ryan and Madelyn.
George went to college as an adult and earned his Fire Science degrees. He started with his beloved Henderson Fire Department January 1, 1969. He was the charter member of Local 1883 when it was created later that year. George became a Training FTO in 1986 and conducted the first modern rookie school for the Henderson Fire Department. In 1988 George Price became Chief Price after being promoted to the newly created position of Battalion Chief of Training. Chief Price migrated to the role of Logistics Chief shortly thereafter. Chief Price retired from the HFD January 3, 1997. To the day of his passing, he cherished his time on the department, and the friendships he made with the “old guys” he came up the ranks with.
At the time of his passing, George Sr was a very active and involved dad and grandfather. He was also raising his two teenage grandsons George III and Ryan. He attended any and all sports games, tournaments and races, as well as teaching gun history, vehicle mechanics and in general just passing on his legacy of experience and knowledge to those who wanted to listen to it and cherish it.
George touched a countless number of lives in his 75 years. There wasn’t a place he went that he didn’t put a smile on everyone’s face or made someone laugh with his old, repetitive jokes. Dad was that one guy that whenever he entered a building – any building - everyone stopped and yelled GEORGE! He is a man to be remembered for his quick wit, straight forward attitude, no bull**** mentality and most of all, for the endless love he had for his children and grandchildren. They truly were his joy, and are his legacy.
In following dad’s wishes, there will only be a private inurnment for family and close friends where he will finally rest beside the love of his life once again – bonded in eternity. There will be a friends and family barbeque and gathering to celebrate dad’s life @ 4:30pm following the 3pm internment on Friday, February 22nd, 2013 - open to anyone and everyone - at dad’s house (3 Brown Street). Please bring a dish of food if possible. We will have a book in the kitchen placed at “his chair”. Please put your favorite memory or memories of George and/or Alice to pass onto their grandchildren.
We ask that you do not send flowers. Instead please make a donation to either George & Ryan’s trust funds or to the Henderson Fire Department Benevolent Association. Please ask Susan Price Brash for information – [email protected].
George’s light will truly be missed on this earth.
Arrangements under the direction of Palm Boulder Highway Mortuary, Henderson, NV.
