Horacio “Oris” A. Briones, age 78, of Columbus, Ohio (formerly of Nevada and California), peacefully departed this life on December 23, 2025. Beloved by family and friends as “Oris,” he was affectionately called “Dad” or “Daddy” by his daughters and “Lolo” by his cherished grandchildren.
Born on August 5, 1947, in Laguna, Philippines, was a man defined by a quiet and steadfast presence. To those who knew him, he was a pillar for his consistent dependability, he was the steady anchor especially for his family and friends, offering unwavering support and calm throughout his 78 years. Oris immigrated to the United States in the late 1970s and took immense pride in becoming a United States citizen in the early 1980s. He shared a lifelong bond with his beloved wife, whom he first met in college as his sister Josefina’s best friend—a connection that blossomed into a lifetime of love and partnership over 50 plus years.
A talented professional with a sharp and detail-oriented mind, Oris was accomplished in both computer programming and accounting. He began his career in California’s thriving technology industry, where his technical skills set him apart. Later, he moved into accounting and managed cash operations at Boyd Gaming, where his reliability and commitment earned him the respect of colleagues and friends. Even after retiring in the early 2000s, Oris continued to be recognized for his unwavering integrity and dedication to family values and faith in God.
Oris’ greatest legacy is his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Suzzette “Suz” Briones; his daughters, Chloe and Eunice; and his cherished grandchildren, Liam and Eli.
He is also survived by his siblings: Merlina Langit (husband Ernesto and children), Querube Briones (wife Yolanda and children), and Josefina Cancio (late husband Danilo and children).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfonso and Catalina Briones, and his siblings: Alfonso Jr. (late wife Yolanda and children), Rolando, Basilides, Evelino (late wife Catalina and children), his twin brother Evelio, and Adelina. His quiet strength, sense of humor, and steady guidance will be profoundly missed by all who loved him.
His last wish was to be laid to rest at the 007 James Bond “Diamonds are Forever” filming site. He loved movies, popcorn and music with his grandson Eli and ice cream, steak, eating out with his older grandson Liam. He hoped those close to him would enjoy life and visit him while they are in Vegas.
