On Sunday, August 8, 2021, John "Jack" Fairhurst; loving father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away at the age of 88 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was born on December 4, 1934 in St. Helen’s, Lancashire, England.
Jack was married to the love of his life Elizabeth (Betty) Leyland on June 26, 1953 in St. Helen’s, England. He served in the Royal Air Force for 3 years prior to starting his career as a Bobby (Police Officer). He walked and patrolled the neighborhood for 10 years before becoming in charge of the M6 motorway. Jack took an early retirement as a Sergeant after 25 years and emigrated to the United States in 1982 to be closer to his daughter, Valerie and her husband, William “Bill” Lenz Jr., and their growing family.
Jack was hired as a night security guard by Burns Security at the Mercury Marine plant in Fond du
Lac, Wisconsin; and through hard work, was promoted several times, rising to General Manager of Wisconsin Operations for Burns Security Services. Later in Jack’s career, he worked on behalf of the Supreme Court of Wisconsin conducting private investigations for the District 3 Committee.
In retirement, Jack and Betty loved their family and helped to raise their 3 grandsons: William, Jackson and Taylor Lenz, outside of Campbellsport, Wisconsin; never missing a practice or a game while learning all about American sports. Jack and Betty also traveled extensively throughout their life, they both loved long cruises to new destinations and experienced all that there was to offer in life together.
In 2015, Jack and Betty once again moved to be closer to their family. They relocated to Henderson, Nevada to be closer to their grandsons and their ever growing families. Jack and Betty thoroughly enjoyed a good buffet at the M Casino and played penny slots together; but most importantly, they never missed a family event or a now, great grand child's game.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Elizabeth in 2020; and his brother, Brian. He is survived by his daughter, Valerie (Bill), his grandchildren and their spouses: William and Shelley, Jackson and Laura, and Taylor and Nassylynne; his 4 great grandchildren: Davis, Layla, Madison and Aiden; his younger brother, Raymond Fairhurst; and sisters-in-law: Sylvia Clisham, Angela Fairhurst and Ivy Leyland.
A private ceremony will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers please donate to a charity of your choosing or Green Valley Evangelical Lutheran Church in Henderson, Nevada.
