Jonas Sikes Roquemore

Jonas Sikes Roquemore, Jr. (aka Sonny) was born in Texarkana, Texas on February 6, 1943 from the union of Jonas Sikes Roquemore, Sr. and Viola Henderson. Sonny was their fifth child out of nine including Lois, Fanny, Mary, Molly, Ola, Roger, Vernon and Joe.

Sonny attended Perris High School where he found his love for sports especially football and track and field. After high school Sonny moved to Bakersfield, CA where he met the love of his life Dorris Mae Roquemore. They were wed on September 5th 1965 in Bakersfield. Through the next 52 years of life they brought three children into the world: Eric, Bryan and Rochelle.

Sonny worked for Santa Fe Railroad for over 20 years and spent most of that time as a carman. In 1977 the family moved to Barstow, CA where Sonny was very involved as a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church. Sonny was also very active in the community where he shared his love for sports as a youth baseball coach for many years. Sonny and Dorris moved to Henderson, NV where they spent the rest of their days surrounded by love with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren close by.

Sonny leaves behind his son Eric Roquemore and his wife Melissa and his son Bryan Roquemore and his wife Maggie as well as his grandchildren: Jasmine, Evan and his wife Katie, Alejandra and her wife Jordan, Malik, Katey and her husband Cody, Deztanie, Jace, Jabarri, Amorian, Jalen and Jezelle. And his great grandchildren: Odin, Aura, Leilani and Cordae.

Sonny was preceded in death by his wife Dorris, his daughter Rochelle, both his parents, and his sister Fanny.
