

Mr. Julius Leo "Jay" Praus, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, veteran, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2026, in Henderson, Nevada, due to complications from pulmonary fibrosis. Born on July 23, 1949, in Dickinson, North Dakota, Jay's life was marked by a witty sense of humor, profound wisdom, and a generous spirit that touched everyone he met.
Jay's journey through life was as rich and varied as his interests. After bravely serving his country as a Master Sergeant (E-7) in the United States Air Force, he continued to lead a life of service and dedication to community and his loved ones. His work ethic and commitment to excellence were evident in all he did, leaving a legacy of integrity and honor.
Beyond his professional achievements, Jay was an avid collector, with a particular passion for coins and writing pens. His collections were more than a hobby; they were a testament to his appreciation for history and craftsmanship. Jay was also known as one of the biggest fans of Joker's Wild Casino, and his love for playing Blitz was legendary among his family and friends. His laughter and playful competitiveness were the highlights of many gatherings.
Those who knew Jay would describe him as the life of the party, always ready with a joke or a piece of sage advice. His wisdom was a guiding light for many, and his generous nature knew no bounds. Jay's ability to make others feel valued and loved was one of his most remarkable traits. Jay leaves behind a loving family who will deeply miss his presence.
Jay is survived by his devoted wife, Victoria Ann Praus, and their daughters, Teresa Praus-Choe (Ian), Marsha Gubler (Casey), Candace Coen (James), and Lindsay Diaz (Juan). His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Mariah Schafer, Kylee Gubler, Dillon Gubler, Payton Gubler, Olivia Coen, Lucah Diaz; and five great-grandchildren, who will carry forward his sense of humor and generosity. He also leaves behind a host of siblings who shared in the joys and sorrows of life with him: Darlene Frederick, David Praus, Leo Praus (Janice), Kenneth Praus (Marla), Gilbert Praus (Nancy), Louis Praus, Bernice Lovata, Linda Stockert (Tom), Vincent Praus Jr., Paulette Praus, and Irene Praus, along with numerous nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent Praus Sr. and Victoria (Pavlicek) Praus; and siblings: Lawrence Praus, Marvin Praus, Andrew Praus, Joseph Praus, Lorraine Binstock, Donna Jilek, as well as in-laws, Terrance Wernicke, Wayne Shoen, Ray Binstock Sr., Robert Jilek, Gerald Frederick, Melvin Lovata, Kathy Praus, and Ronald Mase.
Mr. Julius "Jay" Praus lived a life rich in laughter, wisdom, and joy. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we celebrate the indelible mark he left on the world and the countless lives he enriched. Jay's memory will be cherished, his legacy honored, and his life celebrated by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Palm Mortuary - Henderson, 800 South Boulder Highway, Henderson, NV 89015, US, on March 29, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
Jay will be laid to rest privately with his family at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, Nevada.
