LaCreta Lopeman passed away with family at her side, Dec. 5, 2011, age 78. She left this world having made it a better place by living the values of family, education, church, and service. Aug. 6, 1933, she was born to John and Josephine Del Monte of Florence, Colo. She was a cheerleader and honor student at Florence High School. At Northern Colorado Teachers College, Greeley, Colo., she joined the Sigma Kappa Sorority and earned a bachelors degree. In 1955, she moved to Henderson to be a business subjects teacher (shorthand, bookkeeping and typing) at Basic High School. That same year, she met Keith and they were married in 1957. In 1963, she quit teaching to start a family and build a life filled with amazing accomplishments. She was a charter member of the Black Mountain Golf and Country Club and elected to its board of directors from 1989-1996. She was a three-time Ladies Club Champion and founder of the LaCreta Lopeman Golf Scholarship raising tens of thousands of dollars since 1988 to support graduating members of the Basic High School Girls Golf Team in their pursuit of higher education. In an unexpected business venture with her husband, she became co-owner of Mallory's Supper Club from 1974-1984. A devout Catholic, she was a 56-year parishioner at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church. As a member of the PEO Sisterhood and past-president of Chapter R, she remained committed to raising money in support of women's education throughout the world. Of all these jobs and titles and roles, none was more important to her than these three: wife, mom, and grandma. She joins her parents, John and Josephine Del Monte in Heaven and will be forever missed by those she left on Earth: husband, of 54 years, Keith Lopeman; daughters, Patti Mills of Henderson, and Dr. Tracey Lopeman, Phoenix; son, John Lopeman of Henderson; grandchildren, Joshua, Zachary and Alex; and brother, Philip Del Monte (Barbara) of Florence, Colo. Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, at Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway in Henderson. Funeral Mass will be at noon Tuesday, Dec. 13, at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, 204 S.
