Mary Elms, 86, of Henderson, passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 1,2024. She was born on January 2, 1938, in Boulder City, Nevada to her parents Harry and Grace Fuller, and was the youngest of three sisters. Mary Graduated from Boulder City High School. After graduation she attended the University of Utah, where she studied and achieved her Bachelors Degree in Education. She would later achieve her Masters Degree in Library Science from Villanova University.
Mary met her husband while working at the Lake Mead concession stand. Mary and Wally were married in March 1960 after a short courtship. The young couple would uproot and begin a life of adventure to all of the National Parks they were stationed at during his time as a National Park Ranger. These would include Ft Jefferson, Florida; Herbert Hoovers birth place; Iowa; Mt Rushmore, South Dakota; HopeWell Village, Pennsylvania; Valley Forge, Pennsylvania; and Carlsbad Caverns, New Mexico.
While stationed at Mt Rushmore, Mary would add to her family with birth her son, Clark. Mary and Wally would eventually move to Valley Forge where they would spend the most time raising their son and watching him graduate from College. In 1989, after Clark's graduation, Mary and Wally relocated to Carlsbad, New Mexico; where she would eventually retire as the Director of the Carlsbad Library. Mary would eventually move back to the Henderson area in 1996 where she and Wally would enjoy their retirement.
Mary loved to travel; some of her favorite places to visit were Alaska and Hawaii. She enjoyed traveling the country in their RV and visiting numerous National Parks. Mary went on several cruises and traveled to the east coast to visit her son and three grandchildren. She enjoyed reading Books and canvas needlepoint. Mary adored her family and cherished the time spent with them. She was a collector of Southwest Art, and there was never a time that Mary wasn't taking a picture of everything and anything or chatting up a friend or stranger. She was an active volunteer for her HOA, Altrusa; and the local library. Her favorite organization, and the one she spent the most time and dedication to, is NARFE. She has made many close and dear friends through these numerous organizations. She didn't miss a NARFE meeting or lunch.
Mary was very proud of her family and leaves behind beautiful memories. As her health declined she looked to her faith for comfort and longed to be with her family and friends awaiting her in heaven.
Mary's life will be celebrated with a private memorial and burial with close friends and family. In lieu of sending flowers the family asks that you make a donation in support to the local library in Mary's name.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Wally; and her sister. She is survived by her son, Clark Elms, and his wife Denise; two grandsons: Brady (26) and Connor (23); one granddaughter, Ally (20); her sister, Grace Guyette, and many close family and friends.
