My name is Jerome Timmons, a good friend and fellow combat medic that served with your Dad, Mat, in Afghanistan 2008-2009. I knew him for six years before his passing and have nothing but good things to say about him.

He was the best medic that I've ever had the chance to come across. Over the years at our unit, the 426th Civil Affairs Battalion, he, J.J., and I became very good friends. He taught me a lot of crazy life-saving techniques that was far more advanced than what the average medic knew. Every chance he had he would make sure that I was ok, if I had a class he asked if I needed anything for it, and if I was going somewhere with my team he made sure I was adequately supplied. He was always looking out for me and continually challenging me to better my skills, and I was always grateful to be around him. 

We had another tour in 2012-2013 to Afghanistan and he wasn't able to go on that tour. He had to stay back, but again he and your mom took the time to make the perfect care packages and sent them out to me and other soldiers. Again always looking out for people.

Side note: Outside the military your dad was a very hard working man and loved you both dearly. He was always talking about you both and your mom and cared deeply for you. Hope your mom doesn't read this but....he was also the guy you wanted to know in Las Vegas ;). I visited Las Vegas a few times and he was able to get me into whatever nightclub I wanted to get into without waiting in the long lines. He was very well respected by the security working the night clubs. I'm sure one day you both will be just as respected as him on and off the field.

Lastly, I was with your dad a few hrs before he passed away. Prior to your dad's passing he was assigned to be the Senior Medic in our battalion. Every month he came in he was improving the medical portion of our unit. New equipment, a new room, and new training to come. All of the medics were excited about the new changes. The last day your dad was alive he was putting together some great training for the next drill, for all the medics. We were impressed with all the changes he was making happen. Right before he left training that day, like always, he asked if I needed anything (medical supplies). I asked for a few things and he had J.J. get them for me. I bid him farewell, not knowing that would be my last.

My love for your Dad will always remain and I will make sure to be present in both of your lives to take care of any and every need you have, just as he did for me. Love you guys. Hope you enjoy reading this.

I went to high school with your daddy, and he was a great friend of mine, along with his brother, JJ, and sister Sami.  One thing I always admired about your dad is that he always treated girls with respect - he was able to treat us like one of the boys, while having respect at the same time, but never excluding us.  He was always in a consistent mood - I never saw him get very moody and he was a happy, thoughtful person to his friends.  
I met your mom through Facebook years later after your parents had been married for a few years, when Sami told me to ask her about some advice I needed about feeding one of my boys solids.  Since my boys are the same age as you two, your mom and I would write back and forth on Facebook, asking for advice of each other, or just telling each other funny stories about what our crazy boys were up to.  She became a good friend of mine, even though I'd never met her in person.  The day I heard the news about your dad's accident, she was the first person I thought of.  I immediately got chills and felt sick.  I could only imagine how much this would have completely turned her world upside down, as she often told me stories about how she and Mat met, and what a great father he was to you two.  She posted videos of him with you and you could tell that you three were his absolute pride and joy.  Angel often wondered how she'd go on, and how she'd navigate this new life without your dad by her side.  But she is doing it, and she is doing it well.  She put on a happy face in all of the pictures she took with you two after the accident so that you two knew, as you got older, the love that she and your dad had for you boys.  Angel and Mat had a storybook romance, and anyone could see that.  You two boys are very special, and you come from a VERY special family.  Take care of your mom as you all get older and help her do what she needs to do to make this a happy life.  You all three deserve to live your best life, even if your dad is with you only in spirit.  Your dad would've wanted it that way.  I love you all!

Words can not begin to express how very broken our hears are. We met Mathew about 10 years ago when he came to take our daughter Angel on a date. He was so respectful to my husband and I, a genuine sweet young man. 

As the years went by we got to learn the sensitive, sincere, helpful, loving, wonderful side of Mat. We could not have hand picked a better man for our daughter than Mathew. He is our son-in-law in name only. He will always be a son to us. 

The love, patience and caring nature he instilled in his boys will carry on so his sons can be the man he was. Mathew loved his country and served it well. We lost an awesome man that day. 

We will help raise those boys the way you would have,teach them about the legacy you left behind. We love you Mathew, it is this love that will see us all through this. You will never ever be forgotten.

Your father was a devoted, loving kind man and will be spoken of and thought of for years to come. The love and admiration  he had for you and the rest of his family was certainly respected by many. What a great loss to the family and friends of your father but also a true blessing that you will forever have a devoted guardian angel at your side. 

So much love for the two of you  and I am  truly looking forward to watching you grow into handsome young men with great stories and fond memories of your father in your heart.

Hello my name is Robert Tibbits. Mat was a very good guy. I worked with him at Las Vegas Paving as surveyors. Mat took the time to teach and explain things that we did as work. He also helped me with search and rescue equipment, information, and knowledge. He would give you his shirt off of his back. I remember the day his first son was born and how proud he was. I remember trying to work, but he was so tired he kept falling asleep every time we stop. He loved his family to the most. Thanks Matt for everything and you will be united with his family one day.

My name is Jamie and worked with Mat at LVP for 4 years. So many good times. He made me a better person and man. I miss you dearly. Until we meet again..... Peace!

I've known Mat for 10 years as the cousin of my wife Jayme. From the moment I joined the family, he treated me as a family member. I always appreciated his presence at our family gatherings, and I always valued his quiet resolution about the way life worked and the way things were. Thank you Mat, for your friendship, and your loyalty to our family and our country. Good dude.

This Uncle Gary & Auntie Darlene Jenkins. I have memories of Mat from his younger years when they came to visit family in Illinois. He was a very active toddler and just like your boys. Always wanting to help in some way or another but then there was his very active boy side kicks in also.  As he grew to an adult I was not able to visit but always followed through facebook and talks with Roland. We always wanted to be able to travel out for events but because of work schedules and finances we were not able to and missed alot. But by following on FB we knew how what a wonderful fatjer husband and soldier he became. He was loved by so many and us.

A devastating loss to our family. I will always remember and admire Mat's loyalty and unwavering dedication to his family and friends. 

He made us all proud as a soldier, an amazing dad and all around good guy! 

Heartbroken for myself, but more importantly for his parents, siblings, wife and children.

     I was so, so sorry to hear today about the loss of your fine son Mat.  Roland, as a high school classmate, I haven't seen you in 50 years and am planning to attend our 50th reunion next month, which I understand you have helped with.
     It sounds like your son was a very wonderful man and your grief must be so great.  Our world would be a much better place to live in if everyone were like Mat.  I hope that Joshua will be all right soon.  Again, I am so sorry for your intensely painful loss.

Don't know where to begin. Roland was a high school classmate that I got to know much better many years later. Visited him in WA when I was there for the funeral of my brother. We have been in contact since. Know his sons well, not by meeting them but by the incredible writing talent that Roland has. I feel I know them as well as if I had the opportunity to meet them in person. My heart is broken for the pain he must now feel but I believe Roland (and Polly) will land on his feet again as he shares his love for his children with all of us with his descriptive writing abilities. Matt's father, Roland, my cousin and I were always close.  I never got the opportunity to meet Matt or any of the children, because the family lived so far away from the Midwest.  Over the years, I have grown to known both Matt and and his twin brother Josh, Sami and Alex, via photos and stories from their father. I am proud that Matt's father and all of the children have served or are currently serving our country. Now I will finally meet the rest of the family on Thursday, and say goodbye to Matt at the same time. You fought the good fight, young man! Angel, Chase and Brayden will be well taken care of.
