Mildred (nee Anderson) Weedman, age 94, of Henderson passed away peacefully at home on Monday, Aug. 17, 2015. Born June 1, 1921 in Raymond, Alberta, Canada to Leona Ruth (nee Strong) and Henry Anderson, she was the eldest of eight children. She married her high school sweetheart, Robert John “Bob” Weedman, in Tooele, Utah on Aug. 30, 1940. Mildred was predeceased by her husband, her parents, her sisters Mary Louise, Virginia, Lily Marie, Gae Marilyn, Barbara Lynn, and brothers Eldon Ray “Sam”, Melvin Reed, and son-in-law Devon Lee Jones. She is survived by her five children, Marie Alayne (Devon) Jones of Las Vegas, Karen Ruth (Reginald) Gilding of Rocklin, CA, Robert Blair “Bob” (Shannon) and Evan William “Bill” of Colorado Springs, CO, and Leslie Anson (Mary) Weedman of Henderson, in addition to 25 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren and 17 great-great grandchildren. Mildred was raised on a farm on the wind swept prairies of Canada until the age of 16 when the family immigrated to Salt Lake City UT and lived in a relative’s garage. When the garage burned down, they packed what was left and moved to Tooele, UT where she attended school and met her sweetheart, Bob Weedman. After they married and were blessed with baby daughter Marie, they moved to Redding, CA where Bob worked on the Shasta Dam and baby daughter Karen joined the family. When the dam project was finished, the growing family returned to Tooele. Bob enlisted in the WWII effort and served the in the US Army as a paratrooper while Mildred cared for her family in Tooele. At the end of his enlistment he returned home to work at the local mines and added two sons, Robert and Leslie to their family. In 1952, Bob came to Henderson, NV to work at Basic Management, Inc. and Montrose Chemical and was followed by Mildred and children in 1953. Here the youngest child, Bill, was born. Mildred maintained her original Henderson home from 1952 to the time of her death – a total of 63 years. During this time Mildred was known by family and friends to be a lover of stray animals. She hand fed them, found them homes, and even “mothered” baby tortoises that unexpectedly hatched in her back yard. Over the years she worked at various jobs including at a mortuary, cooking for St. Peter’s Preschool, a home for unwed mothers, and as a clerk at a thrift shop. She was also an avid reader and even when her eyesight began to fail, she wanted to have a book in her hand if her hands were not busy knitting or crocheting the multitude of slippers, pot holders, and dish cloths enjoyed by all family members and friends - and friends of friends. Mildred had a firm faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and her daily prayers always included her family members, loved ones, and those who were less fortunate than she. Mildred’s presences as Mother, Grand, Great, and, Great-great grandmother, friend or neighbor will be greatly missed by everyone who valued her friendship or relationship. Services will be held Friday, August 28 at the LDS Chapel, 400 Water St., Henderson at 10:00 a.m. with viewing one hour prior to funeral. Interment will be at Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City at noon.
