Richard “Rick” Parry , age 75, of Boulder City, Nevada passed away after a brave battle with cancer on Friday, October 7, 2022. He was born December 8, 1946 in Oneida, New York to his parents Richard Canfield Parry and Edith Josephine (Selvaggio) Parry. Rick was raised in Levittown, New York, on Long Island. He played varsity football; and participated on the wrestling team, the fencing club and weight lifting at Levittown Memorial High School.
After graduation in 1966, Rick was drafted into the U.S. Army and served honorably for two tours in Vietnam. He served as a helicopter crew chief and was shot down six times. For his dedication to duty in service of the U.S. Army and his country, Rick was awarded the Purple Heart, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 1 O/S Bar, Good Conduct Medal, Aircraft Crewman Badge, the National Defense Medal, and achieved the rank of Specialist (SP4).
After his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army, Rick worked as an auto mechanic for over 15 years, and 26 years for the state of New York Department of Motor Vehicles, retiring in 2007 as an Automotive Facilities Inspector II. His most memorable achievement throughout his career was being instrumental in the development and creation of the emissions program for the state of New York that is still in use today.
On July 26, 1987, Rick married the love of his life, Beverly, at Crystal Palace in Farmingdale, New York. After retiring in 2007, the couple relocated to Boulder City, Nevada.
Rick had a curiosity about the things around him and tried to experience life to the fullest through his many hobbies and interests. In his youth he participated in sports, and had a passion for auto racing, where he drove a race car for many years. He loved spending time with his wife taking trips to Oahu and Maui, Hawaii; taking cruises to Alaska, visiting Anchorage, the glaciers, and Denali State Park. He was a lover of animals and cherished his four legged kids: his German Shepherd, Ginger; a Husky Dog, Brooks; and his kitties: Patches, Patches Too, Murp, and Mork and Mindy. In his spare time he enjoyed working on his 1989 Ford Ranger Truck, computers, and painting with acrylics.
Rick was the type of person who would show others his feelings through his actions. The qualities of being fair, just and the ability to recognize what was right, were clearly driving forces in his life. He was kind, analytical and observant, modest in his actions, and extremely literal in his thoughts. He was practical and realistic, and truly a man of Integrity. The experiences he treasured most were those he shared with his loved ones and friends. Rick Parry will be greatly missed.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Edith and Richard C. Parry, and his and Beverly’s son, Robert Thomas Parry. He is survived by his wife, Beverly; his son, Sean Michael; his sister, Susan (Ray) Mierjeski, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a great-great nephew.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Rick’s name to your favorite animal charity.
