Robert E. Gilbreath, known to many by his stage name "Bobby Gil", Bob to family and friends, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2025, at the age of 82. Born in Plainview, Texas, Bob’s love for music began at an early age and shaped his entire life.
Moving to California as a young boy, Bob was involved in many social and extracurricular activities, including square dancing and even JV football; but he always found time to share in his greatest love, music, eventually lettering in marching band at Chaffey High School and College.
His passion for music would remain the heartbeat of his life. Bob was a gifted musician, primarily known for his remarkable drumming skills, but he also played guitar and was an incredible singer. Throughout his career, Bob embraced all genres of music, but jazz and rock and roll held special places in his heart. He often reflected on how blessed he was to have had the opportunity to meet and play music with so many talented people along the way.
Bob’s musical journey took him from his early days with The Turtles to his time with Sidro's Armada, a rock band that made waves on the Las Vegas strip. He also cherished his time jamming aboard cruise ships around the world, where he shared his passion for music with audiences far and wide. One of his fondest memories was touring in support of a Frank Sinatra tour in 1973 when he was the drummer for Marlene Ricci. In 2011, Bob’s musical legacy was honored with an induction into the Las Vegas Rock Reunion Hall of Fame as a member of Sidro's Armada.
Alongside his musical talents, Bob was an intrepid entrepreneur who was always exploring new business opportunities. His curiosity and passion for lifelong learning drove him to venture into various business pursuits, always eager to expand his knowledge and challenge himself. This entrepreneurial spirit was just another facet of Bob’s dynamic personality, one that made him an inspiration to those around him.
Above all, Bob was a devoted husband, father, and brother.
Bob’s family was his greatest source of pride, and he often spoke with gratitude about the love and support he received throughout his life.
A true storyteller, Bob found joy in recounting his musical experiences and the lasting friendships he made along the way. He was truly blessed by a life filled with music, adventure, and the company of those he loved. His legacy will continue to resonate through the memories of his performances, the music he shared, and the family and friends who were touched by his generosity of spirit. Bob will be deeply missed, but his generous love and warm spirit will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Myrna; his children: Robert Ian and Felicia Dyan; his step-children: Cassie and Andrew; his three siblings: Jerry, Richard, and Beverly; and 20 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
