William "Bill" Abraham Evans, 83, of Henderson, Nevada, passed away while in memory care for Alzheimer’s on Saturday, May 4, 2024. Bill was born on March 8, 1941, and grew up in Malad, Idaho and graduated from Malad High School class of 1959. After high school, Bill enlisted in the Navy, serving 22 years; retiring as a Chief Petty Officer in 1981.
Bill’s service assignments were on the USS Ranger (CVA-61) and Naval Air Stations in Atlanta, Georgia; Jacksonville, Florida; Alameda and Moffett Field, California. After retiring from the Navy, he returned to the Federal Government civilian workforce and built a successful and accomplished career in Occupational Safety, becoming the Safety Manager at NAS Moffett Field. He was well liked, and his work ethic was respected by his colleagues and leaders.
Bill loved the outdoors and loved to fish in his younger years. He was an avid San Francisco 49’ers and Giants fan and loved nothing more than watching a game with a cold one. He equally loved the Santa Clara Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps. The talent and discipline of the corps kids always amazed him. Bill and Romie spent many years traveling the country following the Drum Corps activity and cheering on Vanguard with their dear friends: Stefanie, Maya, Danny, Marilyn, Sue and Jim.
Bill had a big smile and laugh that lit up the room. He was loved dearly and will be missed by his family and friends. Romie and the family would like to thank the staff at Sterling Ridge for caring for Bill in the years he was a resident there. And a special thanks to his hospice caregiver, Brenda.
Bill is survived by his wife of 40 years, Romie Evans; his daughters: Patti Kirkley (Michael) of Newark, CA and Paula Carollo of Bentonville, AR; his stepchildren: Michael Shaw (Linda Rea) of South Lake Tahoe, CA, Debbie Printz (Mark) of Blairsville, GA, and Tabatha Dickerson of Roseville, CA; his grandchildren: Stefanie Carollo, Keli Carollo, Nathalie Cano, Christopher Shaw, Sarah Printz, Samantha Shaw, and Jack Brown; his son in law, Rodney Cano and his brother, Paul Evans. He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Evans; his mother, Erma Evans; his brother, Pete Evans; his sister, Sharon Dascher; and his stepdaughter, Rita Cano.
