Alfonso E. Najera

Alfonso E. Nájera was born on February 26, 1933 in Manatí, Colombia to parents: María Rodríguez de Nájera and Emiliano Nájera. Together, they had nine children: Isabel Nájera Alcalá, Antonio Nájera, Eudaldo Nájera, Judith Lopéz de Nájera, Lucas Nájers, Lola Nájera de Majúl, Armando Nájera, Emiliano Nájera and Alfonso Nájera. Alfonso is survived by Emiliano who still lives in their hometown of Manati, Colombia.

Alfonso married Julia Nájera on April 24, 1960 and fulfilled his oath before God that only death could separate them. In addition to his wife, Alfonso Nájera is also survived by three daughters: Milagros Nájera, Dolores (Lolita) Nájera Guzman and Mery Nájera Dominguez along with 6 grandchildren: Jorge Armando, Kristel, Ghislaine, Yesid Alfonso, Diana and Adriana Dominguez as well as three great-grandchildren.

Alfonso E. Nájera emigrated with his wife to the United States in 1967. While living in New York he worked at The West Point Academy. Shortly after he relocated to Miami, Florida where he and his wife purchased their first house.

Aside from creating a home for Mery-- their place was very popular among family and friends! A fun and cozy spot where folks traveling from Colombia often lodged. Dabbling in this form of hospitality inspired Alfonso to build his first apartment.

For over thirty years, he served Miami Dade Parks & Recreation as a Park Attendant. After hours, he spent countless hours developing his property. Eventually going on to rent out the space. That was the beginning of his entrepreneurial real-estate ventures. His legacy would soon include owning multiple properties in Wynwood. He had incredible foresight knowing the area would evolve. It continues to grow beyond even his wildest dreams.

Upon retirement, he devoted himself to maintaining his own properties full-time. He was a proud landlord and savvy investor.

Alfonso Nájera also made the most of his dual citizenship; traveling frequently between Colombia and the United States of America. Owning land in both places..

No matter the country, he enjoyed the outdoors. He loved being surrounded by nature and was fond of horses. He was popular at parties. If music was blasting (especially vallenato and classical rancheras) you’d see him dancing or hear him singing!

Although “Alfo” was a playful and cheerful man-- he was revered as respectful and prudent. He always looked for ways to have a good time and share his happiness with others. He was the kind of man who would take off the shirt off his back to a person in need. Anyone who stopped by his house would get a plate of food. Even if it meant giving up his own! He took pride in making others feel at ease. From a “cafecito” or soft drink to a “guacharacazo” (shot of aguardiente) he always had something to offer.

By the time he quit smoking-- the damage to his lungs was done. In his final years, he clung to an oxygen tank. This made him feel restricted; lacking the freedom his unpredictable character yearned for. However, these were years he used to reflect and share many of his life-lessons with his daughter Mery. Those precious exchanges were memorialized with the publishing of their book: Enslaved Spirits. In it-- he shares valuable teachings on the importance of personal development, family bonds and pursuing your dreams. He was deeply cherished and will always be loved.

Tenía ocho hermanos de padre y madre: Isabel Nájera Alcalá, Antonio Nájera, Eudaldo Nájera, Judith Lopéz de Nájera, Lucas Nájers, Lola Nájera de Majúl, Armando Nájera, Emiliano Nájera and Alfonso Nájera. Lo sobrevive su hermano, Emiliano Nájera, quién aún vive en su tierra natal.

Alfonso se casó con Julia Nájera el 24 de abril de 1960. Cumplió su juramento ante Dios de que solo la muerte los separaría.

Al morir dejó a su esposa de 61 años. Sus tres hijas: Milagros Nájera, Dolores Nájera y Mery Nájera Domínguez. Dos nietos: Jorge Armando y Yesid Alfonso. Cuatro nietas: Kristel Guzman, Ghislaine Mendoza, Diana Hurtado Vergara y Adriana Dominguez, tres bisnietos y dos más que están por nacer.

Alfonso Nájera emigró a los Estados Unidos en 1967 con su esposa. Vivieron en Nueva York un tiempo, donde trabajó en la Academia de West Point. Luego se mudaron al estado de la Florida en la ciudad de Miami. Fue ahí donde compraron su primera casa. Su casa era conocida entre familiares y amigos como la casa festejo! El lugar acogedor donde a menudo posaban los que viajaban desde Colombia. Cosa que inspiró a Alfonso a edificar su primer apartamento. Sería ese el inicio de un futuro empresario.

Trabajó por más de treinta años en Miami Dade Parks & Recreation como Asistente de Parques. Todos los días después de llegar del trabajo, hacía un poquito para adelantar hasta que al fin terminó la extensión y decidieron alquilar el espacio. De ahí siguió invirtiendo en propiedades en Wynwood. El decía que algún día la zona cambiaría y tal como él lo predijo-- así se cumplió. Su optimismo no fue en vano. Al retirarse, se dedicó a las bienes raíces y se hizo cargo de mantener sus propiedades como orgulloso propietario e inversionista.

Alfonso Nájera gozó de su ciudadanía doble. Viajo frecuentemente entre Colombia y los Estados Unidos.

En ambos países-- le encantaba disfrutar de la naturaleza.. Disfrutaba montar caballos y bailar en las parrandas! Él adoraba la música, sobre todo el vallenato y las rancheras clásicas.

Al que pasara por su casa, le brindaba un plato de comida, aunque hubiera que hacerla o ceder la de él. Lo importante era que los demás se sintieran bien atendidos. Ofreciendo un buche de café o refresco hasta un guacharacazo, como él decía! Siempre había algo que ofrecer.

Desde pequeño siempre buscaba la manera de divertirse y compartir su felicidad con otros. Era el tipo de persona que se quitaba la camisa para regalársela a quien la necesitara. El Sr. Alfonso, o como muchos le decían Alfo, fue un hombre alegre y a la vez muy serio y respetuoso. Nunca quería que alguien se sintiera ofendido por una imprudencia de otro.

En sus últimos años de vida, le tocó aferrarse a un tanque de oxígeno. Para él era como estar amarrado. Iba en contra de su carácter de ser libre e impredecible. Esos fueron los años que él reflexionó y compartió muchas de estas lecciones con su hija Mery. De allí nació la inspiración para escribir un libro. Él le puso el título Espíritus Esclavos. En el libro, él relata sus enseñanzas, habla acerca de la importancia de la unión familiar y de la necesidad de luchar por uno mismo sin rendirse.

Alfonso Nájera deja un legado en su tierra y en esta también.

A Visitation for Alfonso will be held on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 from 9:00 A.M. until 1:15 P.M. at Caballero Rivero Hialeah Funeral Home, 373 West 9 Street, Hialeah, Florida, 33010. Alfonso will be laid to rest at 2:00 P.M. at Caballero Rivero Woodlawn West Cemetery, 14001 N.W. 178 Street, Miami, Florida, 33018.
