Esteban was born in Cienfuegos, Cuba on May 24, 1939, to his parents Victoria Torriente de Hernandez and Esteban M. Hernandez y Blanco. Esteban was preceded in death by his parents and older sister Margarita Amalia Hernandez de Lopez (Ruben Lopez).
Esteban was raised in Cienfuegos, Cuba. In his early youth, he spent many days at his beloved Cayo
Carenas in the Cienfuegos Bay this is where his love of fishing and the sea commenced. As a teenager, Esteban was part of the Cienfuegos Yacht Club Crew team. One of his proudest lifetime achievements was being a member of the 1956 Cienfuegos Yacht Club champion crew team and winning various gold medals representing the club and Cuba.
In June of 1961 Esteban married Elvira Canler in Cienfuegos and from that union two children were
born: Ana Victoria Hernandez-Zell and Esteban Rene Hernandez. Due to the Communist revolution and unrest in Cuba, in early 1967, Esteban departed from Cuba for Spain. Esteban lived in Spain until he was able to immigrate to his beloved United States of America to join his wife and young children who had also immigrated to the US in the Summer of 1967.
A man of many talents, Esteban owned his own business for many years and later in life went on to help in his son Steve’s business until he retired. He greatly enjoyed spending time with friends of his youth (they had their standing Saturday night dinner dates), making his daily stops at the office for his lunch time escapades with his office family, watching his favorite baseball team (The Florida Marlins) and would never turn away a delicious meal (Cuban food being his favorite). Even though cookies and chocolate treats were his weakness. Esteban was a ferocious reader and history buff. Always, had the latest John Grisham or James Patterson novel at hand. He would always surprise you with a great piece of historical trivia. Esteban lived in South Florida for the remainder of his life, his later years living in Century Village in Pembroke Pines, FL. Esteban will be greatly missed by all his family and dear friends.
