Mr. Charles Wright

CHARLES WRIGHT Charles Leroy Wright, 54, of the Hildebran Icard area passed away peacefully surrounded by family members at the Catawba Regional Hospice on September 17, after a lingering illness. For 20 years Charles was an employee on race teams for the old Busch Series and Winston Cup-working with many of the well known drivers. One highlight of those days was in 2000 when the Busch team won the National Championship with the Nestle’s Quick Car #10 driven by Jeff Greene. The Crew Chief was Harold Holley and Charles was the Car Chief. Also some of the years he enjoyed being the “Spotter” for teams. In 2007 until recently Charles was employed by Houser Trucking at Vale, NC making almost weekly trips back and forth to the West Coast. During that time he made close friendships with his fellow truck drivers and also the personnel at the local office. His family is very proud that Charles had a good safety record. Charles was never married but maintained his own home of which he was very proud. Charles was preceded in death by his father, Yates Norman Wright; grandparents, Guy and Vienna Kiser and Earl and Zena Wright. He was survived by his parents, Wayne and Jean Young; stepmother, Betty Wright; brothers, Dean Young and wife Terri, Jerry Young and special friend Sherry Bumgarner, Johnny Wright and wife Donna; sisters, Norma Brim and husband Eddie, Tracey Wright, Robin Elrod, and Debra McGuire. In addition Charles had many special aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He also had many friends from the Race Car Teams and Truck Drivers. A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2015 at 3pm at Catawba Funeral Home on Hwy 70 next to the Hickory Motor Speedway with Pastor John Compton officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park. The Family will receive friends from 2 to 3 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
