

C. Maxine Cooke, 85, of Hickory, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at her home. Born July 5, 1930, in Burke County, she was the daughter of the late Nell M. Cline. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by Ralph Cline, Henry Cline, uncles, and Ethel Yoder and Blanche Yount, aunts. She attended Longview School, where she was crowned queen of Longview School. She also attended and graduated from Hickory High School. During her full life, she worked for Hickory Police Department, Monroe Calculator Co, Belk, JC Penny and most recently at Walmart, as a cashier, in Hickory. She was an avid gardener and an animal rights supporter, and brought joy to those who knew her well. Survivors include her cousins Lee E. Yount, Sr., and Catherine Helton, and second cousins, Michael Yount, Vicky Yount Michael, Jeffery Yount, Lee Yount, Jr., and a number third cousins. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at Catawba Funeral Home Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm. Pastor Kevin Bibbee will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Catawba Funeral Home is serving the family.
