Danny Eugene Lay

CONOVER – Danny Eugene Lay, 73 of Conover passed away on November 28, 2025 at Carolina Caring surrounded by his loving family.

Born on April 17, 1952 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Floyd Eugene and Lois Withers Lay. Danny was a member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church and he was the owner and operator of New-Con Body Works for over 50 years. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend to all who knew him. Danny loved NASCAR, golf, fishing, the beach and family beach trips.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 55 years, Vickie Barnes Lay, children, Christie Lay Huffman, Clint Eugene Lay; grandchildren, Jason Lamb and wife Zoe, Jordan Huffman, Carrigan Lay, Ethan Lay; great-granddaughter, Michaela Joy Lamb; sisters, Cynthia Wallace, Becky Deese and husband David, Kim Barus and husband Johnny; a special uncle, Bud Withers and nieces, nephews and other family members.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2025 at 1 PM at Catawba Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Allen officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11 AM – 1 PM at the funeral home.
